Yep, I'm now a member of Philly Car Share and I have the electronic key to prove it. I didn't go straight out and drive a car for fun, and we still have to sell my sweetie's car sitting in a parking space waiting to be sold. So I don't expect to actually use a car-share car for a while. I rarely need/want to drive anywhere.

Does anybody else use car-sharing. One of the things that really surprised me is how quickly PhillyCarShare is expanding. I could be wrong but it seems like during the 6 months that I've been procrastinating about signing up, they've doubled the number of locations where they keep cars. I live three minutes' walk from two locations with 6 cars or so.

PhillyCarShare claims to have taken 2,100 cars off Philly's streets. Pretty impressive, even though my guess is that some of the displacement of private autos that they're claiming, is actually displacement of informal car sharing, carpooling, public transit, and rental car use.

I live in a bassackwards part of the country and the closest Flexcar is over an hour a way:eek: However my son utilizes ZipCar (http://www.zipcar.com/index) and loves it. They currently have only 4 cars for his area, but say they are going to add 2 more next year based on use levels, but he is headed to GB for graduate work:p I love the concept and hope it continues to catch on.

Car sharing is still expanding here in DC as I noted in another post but I don't use it. Of the 4 FlexCars recently installed across the street the one used most seems to be the pickup truck. I know the sedans are also being used since the pickup sometimes gets parked where a sedan used to be. The only time I notice an empty slot it is the pickup that is missing. I don't see how they make money on this since the vehicles are usually parked. The cars need to be out in order for the company to collect the $8.00 per hour don't they?
