Alt Bike Culture - New Project: Rat-Sled

Started a new project today, only got about an hour of work in, chopped my old tallbike down to this (sorry, bad picture):

You can't see it, but it is held together with vice-grips and wood blocks... just getting the angles roughed out before I hit it with the welder.

Hopefully I will have the fabrication done tomorrow.

Awesome! But how do you intend to attach the seat tube? And is the rear wheel only attached to one set of stays? If so, I applaud your bravery.

I am going to weld a seat tube to the rear triangle that came off a full-suspension pacifica mtb. Yes, there are two chainstays.

Going to add a little length to the bars and a little bit smaller front tire, or longer (27") fork, the tire is about 1mm too big for the current one. Also have add a bottom bracket where the crank is proped up in the picture. Only had about 20 minutes to work on bikes today, so I didn't get much done.

Almost done, should have some pics in a day or two, have to touch up some "booger welds", I worked on it really late last night and couldn't use the grider to miter tubes due to the amount of noise, so I decided to just build up some welds and use scrap to fill in the holes, it is stiff as heck and rides pretty dang nice, just need to sand er down a little and get a couple coats of flat black and gloss red on her.

Got it finished... rides like a dream, I tried to beat the hell out of it to make sure it wasn't going to break and it held up to all my tests (going through ditches and whatnot). Total price: $5 for paint, all parts salvaged from the dump and throw-aways.

This one is for Stacey, the night that I welded it up, I had to be quiet, thus the grinder was out of question to mitre the tubes, so I went for booger welds to fill in the gaps, note the tube that used to be attached (the rear triangle came from my first chopper build "Al Frankenstein" which got a new rear-end and 3-speed hub a couple months ago...
