I'm thinking about putting her on ebay and wonder how rare the color is. I've seen mostly pewter 83 520s.
I'm the second owner of this bike and it's only had about 500 total miles ever put on it. The only thing that's not true to the bike is the saddle, tires and a 720 plastic chainstay protector that the original owner had a Trek dealer put on after the original started coming off. The bike has a number of paint chips from storage but aside from that is in fantastic shape. Any guess as to what $ range it may bring in given the color?

The 1983 is hard to guess because it is a touring bike without the cantilever brakes, that could be good or bad depending on who's bidding. see the 84 520 thread that is up right now because it shows how weird the pricing can be on ebay. If it is really mint I would say $250-300 is realistic but it could spike higher with a bidding war because it is the right size and it's spring.
good luck

I definitely believe $300+ is doeable, considering you have a lot of good images and they show a beautiful bike.

Thanks.
Yes the 83 520 is a sport tourer which I'd rather have over the 620 to tell you the truth. My intention is to sell this and buy one of the many Italian bikes that I raced in the mid-eighties.
I intend to state in my ad that this is the more rare of the 83 520 colors. I personally have not seen another one in gunmetal blue but I'm not immersed in vintage Trek culture. Does this ring true among others?

I doubt your color is worth more than the other colors. On the other hand, the caliper brakes are going to cost you unless someone fails to notice.

There's only one other color and I'd guess that if gunmetal is hard to come by, it would be worth more to someone wanting something a little different. When I start looking for my Pinarello I'll be after only one of the colors it was made in and would pay less for one of the others. We'll see.

good point, touring is enjoying some popularity currently but someone looking for a touring bike will want something with cantilevers. As nice as treks are they do not have a big collector following and people who do collect (like us) don't want to pay as much as someone who is buying this for their main ride. I don't think colour is going to affect the value to be honest. It is in very nice shape and I agree with $300 being a reasonable expectation.
