Hi everyone,

I am a type 1 diabetic on the insulin pump. The pump is my concern. It is water resistant but not water proof and there are no water proof cases for this particular model.

So my question regards the wetsuit...I have never used one...Can I wear the pump under the wetsuit and will it be safe, read: dry enough? Are some suits beter than others for this?

wetsuits actually let water in. They don't keep you dry. Your body heat, heats up the water between you and the suit to keep you warm.

im not sure how the pump works, but could you wrap it in saran wrap and tape?

Dang! Thanks for the clarification!

evanyc...naw, not worth the risk. I broke one in a bike crash earlier this year, I don't want to burn all my matches with my insurance provider...

My wife is diabetic and also on a pump. She is considering doing a sprint tri. Her main concern was also what to do about the pump. Keep us informed how things go and what works and does not work.

Not sure what insulin pumps cost, but this company makes one suitable for scuba diving...

Barring the cost of that, Maybe a small pelican case:
Drill a small hole for the tube, and seal the tube to the case with silicone caulk.

How about an otterbox? They're tough and totally waterproof, and the music-player ones have a sealed port to allow the headphone cable through that should work for your pipe.

The other option would be to remove it before the swim and re-fit it in T1. Not sure how practical that is...
