Just got one yesterday and have been following it around like a dork for the last 15 minutes. It's a pretty cool machine. Though, I doubt Fletch will think so when Rose brings him back from his walk :)

When I worked at The Home Depot, there was one on display on a table with borders on it. Someone decided to let it loose on the floor, and a customer later reported that it was headed across the parking lot toward Ralphs!

Hi,

We have a Roomba and it works OK. My better half doesn't like the fact that you have to move most of the furniture out of the room to keep ti from getting stuck. Of course, as early adopters, we have the 1st gen Roomba.

Actually it did WAY better than I expected. I'm not easily impressed but this thing did it.

He seems to think so too :) I remember when I got him and told one of my female co-workers what I named him. She said, "You're such a dude."

Mine didn't have that problem. I thought for sure that it was going to have problems but it did the Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Entry Way and Laundry Room without getting stuck once. It transitioned from tile to wood to area rugs pretty easily.

It does a great job. I have to presweep since I have a long hair dog that sheds. The roomba will even get the dog hair, but pre sweeping is much easier than cleaning out the dog hair. Beyond that, it really does work well.

For the ignorant, what's a Roomba? :o

It's a vacuum cleaner not much larger than a frisbee that vacuums automatically. You turn it on and it goes until it bumps into something, then it changes direction.

Oh... I think I've seen infomercials for the thing.

A vacuum that is self propelled with some artificial intelligence... in other words bumps into everything in the room and eventually vacuums the entire room/house (if all rooms are the same level)....

Plug 'em into a strip, because voltage surges can easily fry the onboard charging circuit. :(

I have one and I love it. Two or three times a week I move it to a room, shut the door and press Clean. When I get back from work, empty it and voila, I just vacuumed.

Gotta love that....

How much dirt/hair/fir/stuff do you pull out of your Roomba?

Enough that I'm going to start running it every day. Fletch has pretty long hair so that's one thing but the amount of dust and stuff is pretty unbelievable.

The first few times its A LOT! It seems like it's a lot more than when you use the vacuum. After about 3 times it starts to go down. I get some dirt but a lot of dust and have to make sure I clean it out pretty good every time.

I bought a roomba last year and it worked great. However my dogs were mesmerized by it and would chase it and follow it and bark at it......so much that it was annoying and I gave it away.

^ lol my dog doesn't like the larger vacuum cleaner but I wonder what he'd think of a roomba.

my dogs actually hate both.........but the little roomba they could actually tower over. So they all teamed up to overtake the ROOMBA. It was hilarious but it got old fast with all the barking. My smallest jack russell would even try to bite it.

You're right, he is a shepherd. I actually call him Irwin when he's in trouble.

He doesn't like the Roomba but after the third time he stopped barking at it and now just avoids it at all costs.

He's got a lot of hair? So, with the afro, he's 6'9"?

/oh, he draws the foul!

you think it is awesome now, but wait until the robot revolution happens. you just KNOW that the name of everyone who owns a roomba will be on some list and you'll all be the first to go...

the example of the home depot roomba is a perfect example - trying to escape at the first moment!

until i'm assured that the roomba is happy vaccuming away i'm not entirely comfortable with a robot slave in my house...
