Great Lakes - Did you ride today?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Shawn Adams plotted a cross course out for his practices. Depending on conditions and how hard I'm riding a lap takes 8:20 to 9:15. It has a mix of pavement, grass, technical section, bare ground/mud, hills and a tall staircase. We could meet sometime and I'll show you the course.

Sounds good, thanks Bill.
I'll check the messages and see if you're heading down there, I could use the practice.

Thanks< Momof4! I know we are on the same page when it comes to our kids.

BTW did you go out to Bike Authority and meet that girls riding group they are building, The Grunt Girls (What a name!)? Tina liked them and is going to join them and see what it's like.

yep i did, i rode to my high school & back, one of the few people that did today for school. it was a beautiful day in southeast michigan...
but YESTERDAY i went for a 54 miler from Clarkston all the way up through Hadley, and up to I-69, one of the most epic rides i've ever had...i'm not gonna lie, northern oakland county is a great place for cycling. (does anybody even live in this area? flying rhinos anybody?) If so, how do i compare, i'm 17 and i've rode over 2500 miles this year alone...

Well Jinjo, let see I'm 54 and so far I have in 9400 miles this year (just showing off) and some pretty neat ones at that! The wife also rides and she is at 7000 miles and is, DARE I SAY, 50 yrs old!

I guess I should add that we live in NE Ohio about 25 miles west of clevburg, some nice country roads around here too.

BTW, I'm impressed that a 17 yr old enjoys riding as much as you do, 2500 miles is pretty darn good.

geez were is everbody?? 11/11 Veterans day, thanks vets!! 52 miles today, sunny, but cold, stiff NE wind (the worst possible direction for here) so a 20 mile, very cold and very strong headwind to finish. ouch!

To all those brave men and women whom signed on the dotted line and went off to defend our country; Thank you!

I have ridden 80+ miles this week and took yesterday off as I rode 62 miles Sunday and just did not have it Monday, as I only rode 20 miles. But I will pick it back up tonight.

To the brother whom is 17, and has logged over 2k. Keep at it. Cycling may be listed as a sport, but realistically it is one of the greatest stay in shape physically and mentally exercises anyone can enjoy. There have been many days when things got me to the point I wanted to give up, but after a few miles on my cycle, I was able to get back into the flow. When my son, speakng of vets, got his leg blown off and his arm messed up in Iraq, the bike was my Budweiser, Henessy, weed, screaming, hollering and all the other vices one uses to cope.

But since you have not seen me, or some of the other cloud of witnesses, meet Garysol.
Seeing, and riding with him is believing!

thanks for the info, Dan, I will look into it. Don't especially like the name, though lol, wouldn't Giro Girls be better?

I haven't been able to get on the bike this week but I have done some running and I'm planning on riding tomorrow on my day off.

agree 100 million percent w/this, Stumps. Freedom isn't free, and it's not always someone elses son or daughter who pays the price for the freedom we enjoy and all too often take for granted, myself included.. God bless you and your awesome son.

My son just enlisted, officially, this past Monday. Marine Corps. I have not had a prouder moment in my life, even though I'm really scared.

But since you have not seen me, or some of the other cloud of witnesses, meet Garysol.

Thanks Mom and Stumps but there are lots of better and more inspirational stories of life changing weight loss than I here on Bikeforums. Thanks for the props all the same. MOM....Congrats on the enlistment....:thumb:

11/11 - 27.4 miles
Rode to Romeoville. Plotted a couple Com Ed trails in town there.

11/12 - 30.4 miles (likely last 25+ miler 'til spring)
Rode to McKinley Woods in Channahon. Preserve was closed for a month or so. South part of the preserve got a makeover (parking lot reconfigured, new latrines built, canoe launch built and better access to the campgrounds) and the preserve road got repaved. A new shelter is currently getting built on the north end.

May end up getting 100+ miles this week. Already surpassed October's mileage (which was horrible due to cool, rainy month).

yesterday was a gift, not many days like that in Nov in NE OHio. We rode 45 miles, by SPencer Lake then Wellington, just a beautiful day, enjoyed it immensely.

Today I'm back at the salt mines, will run later.

11/14 - 11 mile ride after work (before 5 p.m.). Overcast but nice. Clouds broke up by end of ride. Temp near 60.

Fell just about 1.5 miles short of 100 this week. Likely won't come close to it til late march.

11/13 - 11 miles on singletrack
11/14 - rode from home to the local singletrack, 11 miles
11/15 - rode from home to the local singletrack, 12 miles

Well Gary,

Modesty and all does not detract from my first ride and meeting with you. Though I was scared of first impressions and riding with folks whom ride 10k plus miles....You, Moms, Dan, Leinad, and a few other members of that cloud made it, for me, one of the most memorable rides ever. I still remember your bikeside manners when we dropped off to make sure others kept up. And I remember all the other just leadership qualities you that shone with you. Sure, there may be others whom have lost more weight, and sure there may be others who have a more livid testimony about how biking changed their lives, but few not only live it, ride it, and work it (Spin) better grace and style than you.

If I had never rode a bike and my first outing ever was with you all...it would be enough to make me want to come back.

And trust me, when I finally get some ladies from our church and other places we campaign cycling for, I will most definitely introduce them to Moms.

But you all are what a cloud is suppose to be: above all others! Blessed to know you all!

And Moms we are keeping your son up in salats too. As proud as you are of him I know it is a likewise deal.

You're the coolest sis:D

Rode 37 miles during a 2 hour lunch hour. I traveled up and down the Chicago lakefront from the north end to Hyde Park. Temps were 52F under sunny skies with a nice 10 mph breeze from the SW.

Several faster riders to share the pull with. One guy on a Nishiki Cyclocross bike with knobbies was holding 19 to 22 mph. Another on a 14 speed Schwinn also kept a faster pace. Two idiots were passing people in a sandwich formation. They would then slow and re-pass the same riders.

Overall, a nice ride without the usual Lakefront crowds.

did a sweet 57 or something (a 50 mile ride where we got lost then had a road block) from New Albany to Granville. Here's our group of 4 (I'm not pictured) after I just pulled through a couple annoying hills and finally found a nice flat stretch, Tuck, Andrew, Mike, & me...

WONDERFUL 20 in!!! this may be the last "nice" day for a while (high of mid 50's, overcast) before cold & rain & some snow comes starting tomorrow.... may have to take the long way home.

Ah... and rocked my new Tour De Cure jersey. Funny, there's nothing like putting on a brand spanking new jersey, eh?
