6/10 - Yes (finally!)
25 miles late in the afternoon. Did some Sleepy Hollow hill repeats. Familiarity helps with hills. I didn't use the bailout up Hickory Hollow, even hitting it 3 times. Not too long, but enough to burn the lungs each time. Again, thanks to cyclpsycho for tipping me to these steeps in our own backyard!

Little rail-trail action with my son. Was a loosen-up ride as we were off to the zoo for the afternoon. More this week to come.

Sorry a day late. Commuted in. Rabbit raced me again. Way too many geese for public safety. Fastest commute in to date. Legs were dead from hard ride and run on the weekend.
On ride home wife called and told me to come straight to the doctors - no shower. Spent the night in the hospital with my son. :(
Now that he's out and we can't take him to daycare that rules out riding for the rest of the week....except maybe Friday....then aham can pick me up on the way to the Horrible Hilly....

6/12 - Yes.
Rode 28 miles in Barrington Hills. Nice rolling terrain. Even at rush hour, cars were very concious of bikes on the roads there. Very nice.

6/13 - 18 miles. Got my new Astrale 8 with cadence and was out there riding...trying to spin those cranks :)
PITA to get both the wheel and crank sensors to work...I still have my Vetta on the front (no cadence) and that was a lot easier to setup.
6/13 = YES
36 miles / 17mph -- i guess you could call this my final HHH prep. headed out at 6pm after making dinner. saved mine for after the ride. went a bit harder then yesterday, but really just wanted to spin it real good. everything is really tight on me and i hope the next two off days bring some relief of that. either way, next up is 124 miles and 12000 feet of climbing. later.

6/15 - Yes. Commute in. Saw a Maserati in downtown St. Chucks. No rabbit chasing today. Saw a pretty good sized doe near St Chucks as well.
Broke my own land speed record for the commute in. Wasn't trying, but I bested my best time in by almost 2 minutes = 0.5mph. Couldn't even feel it. It's going to be a good day.

6/15 Nope. Yesterday I got my crash in for the year while riding easy with some friends. Broke a pedal while out of the saddle and over the bars I went. Just got a few bruises and added to my legacy of being accident prone. Also got the recognition of being a 'strong rider' among these friends because I could out still out ride them with just one leg. (of course I finished the ride ! ) :D
6/16 I did 42 miles and just before the temp start climbing.

6/16 - 36 Miles. Did the Janesville Pie Ride in Winsonsin. It was a good time. Hotter than Hell and way more hills than I am used to so it was good training. Next weekend is my 2 day ride. Le Tour De Shore. 58 the first day and 28 the second. I just got into riding this year so hopefully I will be ready.

6/18 = Commute
Was feeling kind of bad about not doing more distance on the HHH and overeating on my way up to the ride in anticipation of riding at least 100 miles. Got a deep massage yesterday morning (father's day gift) and did that 1 hr "recovery ride" at 10 mph with the family.
I figured I'd feel like $1million today - not the case. I had nothing in me. No deep power, etc. I found myself slinging along in the small rig for a lot of the ride in this morning.:(
I left at a different time so I wasn't sure how I was doing time wise so I swapped over to Avg Speed to get a rough idea. It read 13.8 ! WTF happened??!!
I was killing myself and only turning out the slowest ride I have ridden all season.
I finished up and got into work in a fairly bad mood. Then I started to log my commute and I noticed something. The total time was for 2.5 hours. Hmmm....that's not right. I check my HRM and notice that the time for the ride in was actually 4 minutes faster than normal.
SONNUVA - I forgot to reset the computer from my father's day ride. Moral of the story: forget about your computer, for those that can't do that well, at least reset it at the beginning of the ride.
CyLowe....got any of that high tech blue painter's tape I could borrow??

Bestest, cheapest, greatest training aid out there, my friend.
Powertaps and SRMs and Polars and Garmins are useless against the power of CyLowe's Patented Blue Tape Training Method™.
I've got a three-pack I'll sell you for, let's say.... $30. That's a downright bargain compared to the other possibilities!!!

6/19 (yesterday :o ) - Yes.
29 miles with a Tuesday night group (thanks cyclpsycho!). The ride was a few mph more than my usual pace, so I was working hard to hang on to the faster riders. Yo-yo'd off the back a few times and at one point later in the ride asked someone to look at my rear wheel to see if it was going soft. Nope, it was just me feeling sluggish. I popped off the back up a hill, but the group was waiting at the next stop sign for a pit-stop.
All in all, a fun ride and the legs felt pretty fresh three days after the HHH.
^^^^ you guys seem to be hitting your stride! nice work. me, no rides since the HHH.
none in my near future as i will be living la vida loco for the next week. i have no idea how i can or will handle 10 days off the bike. i get teary-eyed just thinking about the time off.
funny how the wifes idea and my idea of a vacation differ. she wants the beach, the sun, and all the fun that comes with all inclusiveness. me, i like the sun, i like fun, as long as you through in some suffering and my bike!!
later.
6/19 - yep
My usual Tuesday afterwork ride...37mi loop downtown Chicago to Indiana. Didn't really feel like pushing myself, but I did manage 18.5mph avg. Not bad considering the winds, but not great either. I plan on riding home after work on Friday. 62mi by car, not sure how many by bike, but I guess I'll find out.

6/19 - 30 miles...hit 27.5mph at one point (136 cadence) was able to hold this for 1 minute or so...
6/19 - 10 miles.
6/20 - 55.3 miles.
Not that it's very fast (27:10), but I set my personal best in our little informal 10 mile TT ride last night (no TT gear or aero bars). If I make the 26's, I'll be very happy with my progress over last year.

Did the Le Tour De Shore ride this weekend. Starts at Millenium Park in Chicago and then to the Indiana Dunes. 62 Miles. Stay at motel and have a barbeque then the next day to the Michigan Dunes (Warren). 31 Miles to there. Then there is a beach barbeque at the Warren Dunes. Busses come and ship you home as well as your bikes. The Bus was great they played a movie and everything. Great ride. I will do it again next year.

I did my partial commute today, drove to the out parking lot at work (about 5 miles) and then biked the rest of the way in (about 2 miles). This is because I am working midnight shifts and the fiance is worried for my safety in the night, which is understandable (and appreciated). I still wish I can do the full commute even if half of it is at night. Maybe someday, I'm still new at this.
6/24 - 66.3 miles around Des Plaines, Mt. Prospect, Prospect Heights, Arlington Heights, Wheeling and the Prospect Heights bike path.

6-24--Wife is at work which means parenting duty for me, 8 month old. It is amazing how drained after a 12-14hr shift of watching the kid. Wife is a nurse, thats why the long day. This evening I will feel like I rode...does that count. :)

6/23 - Completely worn out from my 32 mile ride friday, it was the farthest i'd ever done and i was still worn out saturday, so i collapsed into bed as soon as i got off work. no ride.
6/24 - Decided to run the risk of getting drenched but luckily the storms spared me! It was pouring this morning but luckily around 2pm I managed to get a 33.6 mile ride in. Crazy steep hills, I thought a few times I wasn't going to make it. Overall a good ride though, I can feel myself making progress (this will be my 4th week riding) :)
6/22 - 54 miles Was my first time riding home from work. One wrong turn added 10 miles to my ride :( I really should get a compass. Something just didn't feel right so I stopped at a gas station and asked directions. I didn't make it all the way, I stopped to get the car from my wife's work to pick up the kids. That wrong turn ate up too much time. Oh well, lesson learned. Know the route ahead of time if you're crunched for time.
6/23 - 123 miles After a disappointing ride the previous night, I decided to get up early and try again. I've always wanted to ride to Chicago and back so I headed out at 7am, rode to the south loop, ate lunch at Greektown, and came back. It was a slighty cool day, and I kept the warmers on the entire ride. I got attacked by cicadas (ok, only one hit me). I think lunch at Greektown did me in. I was stopped for almost an hour, and ate way too much. The whole ride took 9 hours. I think I'm in trouble for RAIN.

I would love that too if the trip next week was not cancelled. Shrimps and beer, yum. Also could have taken the bike with me and ride up and down the coast. Have fun during your stay.
