July was a gang busters month......August not so much. Only two rides so far. This one was a nice 35 mile Sunday stroll in the heat. Still knocked it out in just under two hours, but the legs were feeling the time off. Later.

Tonight I rode with the Tuesday group out of Hudson, WI. We do KOM and sprint for town line signs. Guess what? Tonight I got a sprint! Shot my heart rate to 194 to do it. One of the better ride I have done this year. 33+ miles and finished at 16.8. here are the stats:

8/16 - I've taken the Lakeshore Path each morning this week except Monday before work. Cut it short to ~30 minutes twice b/c of early meetings (Tuesday's ride was surreal b/w the dark and rain - runners and cyclists kept appearing from the haze) but did a nice little tt loop once for 12 mi...will be out tomorrow morning, too. It's now about a week into returning to riding after almost five months off; the improvement is very slow.

8/16 15 mile taper ride. I was planning on going 25, but I had to cut it short since my little saddle bag dislocated itself on one side and I didn't wanna risk loosing it.

Mid August riding malaise has been in full effect this week, but I forced myself to take a lunchtime ride today. Glad I did. It's gorgeous outside today.

Yes!!!!!

The kids are at Grandma's and Grandpa's. I have the day off. I did a beautiful ride though Bull Valley, around the lake, to Woodstock and Bull Valley again.

I got my haircut at Slim's, a couple of tacos at La Rosita (rated the best in the NW by the Trib) and stopped in Wheelwerks for the first time. It's a new, upscale LBS in Crystal Lake, the owner was very nice. He sells Orbeas, Sevens, Waterfords - good stuff.

Now I must clean the garage, basement and cut the lawn. The day can't be completely fun.:)

Yesterday, I did 36 miles and this morning I did 28 miles, trip cut short with a side trip to the LBS to get a new front tire, a Continental Contact to replace an aging stock tire with cracks on the sidewall. I went from 35 to a 32 and noticed an improvement in handling and speed. Still debating if I should do the Wright ride on Sunday.

45 minutes easy. First ride in about 10 days. Chilly, jacket, rained through most of it, and I got pretty wet but it was great!. Felt good to pedal. Quite a few others out too. Rode from Sheridan Park on Milwaukee's east side to South Shore Yacht club and around a bit.

8/26 - 46 miles

decided last night that since the weather was going to be perfect today, i would do the bull valley/hebron ride. left my house this morning around 6:30am with arm and knee warmers on. legs felt good. unfortunately, rawson bridge road is closed because of the river rise, so i had to take an alternate route to get to prairie grove. did the hills in bull valley and turned right onto queen anne rd to find that it was flooded right at the turn and was about a foot deep, so i had to cut the ride short and head back.

when i got back to river road by the mchenry dam, the water had risen so much that i couldn't ride through it safely. luckily a passerby offered to drive me across in his grand cherokee, so that was nice.

Edge data:
Moving Time (h:m:s)2:38:49

8/25 - 20 miles and today 31 miles. Section of River Rd. is blocked due to flooding and fallen trees not yet cleared. Some roads are littered with debris from the storm and part of the MUP I rode this morning is under water but rideble if you don't mind getting some water on your bike and yourself. Ride this morning was pleasant with a gentle breeze coming from the Northeast, a relief from yesterday's humid condition.

Bummed out. Was riding on Saint Mary's when my left spd cleat wouldn't release then my sandal separated from the cleat sending the heel into the wheel messing it up and knocking the valve off my tube. After replacing the tube I made my way back to the Lake Forest Metra Station and home. Fixed the wheel, wasn't too bad, but the sandals are toast. Had to pry the cleat out of the pedal with a flat head screw driver. Why do I keep having problems with SPD? maybe time for Look style 3 hole pedals/cleats. Still got in 30 miles.

Rode the Cream City Century....actually more like 93 miles of it. Have only ridden the trainer once in the last month basically. This was literally my first time back on the bike after the accident. Not bad time (about 5:30) for the 93.

Now...if the flooding would clear up I could ride to work again.

Been off the bike for a couple weeks - too damn busy - but I got out of school early tonight, so I had time for a quick ride: 21 miles @16.6 MPH. That's a pretty good average for me, so I guess I didn't regress too much (going to the gym must help, eh?).

Also, note to self: 45 minutes before sunset is not the appropriate time to try out a new route. Oh well, at least I have lights on my bike.

Was able to get in a long ride around Lake Pepin, the birthplace of water skiing. Met five others in Red Wing, MN. We crossed the Mississippi into WI and took the Great River Road Bike Route (WI 35) to Nelson. Took a little break and rehydrated, had a cliff bar, etc..Got on WI 25 and headed to Wabasha, MN after crossing the Mississippi again. Took US 61 north, through Lake City back to Red Wing. The weather was very humid at the start We received word the weather was turning bad back in Red Wing when we reached Nelson, and we could see the dark clouds back to the north. We made it to Lake City dry. But the rain started just as we left. Last 15 miles were in the rain. 71 miles total for the ride at 16.7 avg.

Sun/Mon/Tue yes! Work is finally not-so-crazy: only MOSTLY crazy now.

Apparently, I didn't get the memo, but it's reseal your driveway week in West Bloomfield, MI. I swear, on my ride up/around/through the neighborhoods bordering Lone Pine and Covington there were no fewer than 10 resealed, noxious driveways last night. I think I may have suffered brain damage from the fumes.

No rides today or yesterday...just took the GRE this afternoon and actually did better than I thought I would!

New tires in today for the Bergamo, so I'm going to change those, clean the drivetrain and then (hopefully) take it out for a nice spin today (8/30) to downtown New Brunswick and maybe out to the canal.

I really need to get back into the whole taking the roadie out and going to nowhere in particular again...I miss that. Though now I'm studying for the A+ exam in October...lol.

40 miles today ....an absolutely perfect day. Loving my teaching schedule this year. 7:30-10:50 I can easily be rolling by 11:30 and get in a good ride before daughter gets home. I'm lucky.

Rode my "hilly" route with my friend and we were slow....chatting and catching up on everything since school started. Good times...Crystal

9/1 - 31 miles. This morning ride was supposedly just a short 10 mile jaunt. I didn't bring my trunk bag with me which contain my nutrition, extra pint of H2O, tools, U lock, helmet cover, rain jacket etc. I seem to be carried away by the urge to go for more. Told myself I need to quit at 15 then 20 then 25 and finally what the heck it's a nice day out, why not go for more and ended with 31. A great way to start the month of September with reasonable distance. 59 degree when I started and had my bike jersey under the fleece and sweat pants and no trunk bag, thus the reason for a short 10 mile ride as originally planned.
