Just got a used Trek Fuel 80 with a Pilot fork and the book says not to exceed 50 lbs of pressure but it's still a little soft for me (225 lbs) Has anyone went beyond 50 lbs ?
This will be just for a short time going to a Reba soon.
Would a fork rebuild help in the meantime?

Is the 50 lbs for the preload? I had a pilot or two, but they were spring with air preload. As for the spring I couldn't get it stiff enough for me at 150lbs so I put heavier viscosity oil in it and that helped alot!

Air is for preload. I seen some heavier springs in the spare parts on Rock Shox's website.
What wt. oil should I use? Or just use the 5wt and change springs ?

At 220lbs you may want to incorperate both. I went from 5wt oil to ten, but 15 might be called for in this case. That plus a stronger spring, could take care of it. When is your other fork coming?

Rock Shox said to use 15wt, Going to order Reba Tues or Wed, just wanted to ride teh Fuel today and didn't want to bust any seals by over inflating, I am at 60 lbs now and thought about slowing the rebound down a little, it's as fast as it goes now.

Back to top for this older thread.. FYI the 50 psi is a misprint in the manual. there is a thread about it somewhere. Top pressure is actually supposed to be only 20 psi for this fork. They sell a heavy duty spring and combined with 15 weight stiffens it up quite a bit. I have a two of them now. they are a decent super cheap fork but nothing fancy or to write home about..

Put the heaviest spring in and 15wt oil rode one time and oil seal on top blew put. Threw it in the parts ben and put on a Reba Race and LOVING it.
