I had one of my best rides ever today.

10.05 miles, 300 feet elevation. Avg spd: 7.9 mph.

Ok, so what made it so great? My wife and I went out riding together. We took a bus down to Alameda Station, and rode to Cycle Analyst. (I put down a deposit on a bike!)

Then we rode up to Alameda and had lunch in a Greek restaurant (Pete's Central 1, at Alameda and Pearl). The food was incredible, and the people were great!

Then we rode up, got on the Cherry Creek trail and rode to REI to look around. Cherry creek was an adventure... Several parts were underwater, one area the water came over the tops of our chainrings! (It was very amusing watching the roadies gingerly pick their way through the water while CARRYING their precious bikes! :roflmao: )

After REI we rode down the Platte river, crossed over and caught the 9 at 10th and Knox to come home.

She's thrilled, telling everyone that she rode over 10 miles today! :) And we both had a great time.

Cool! What bike are you getting?

I am looking at a caad 9 from cannondale tomorrow.... I hope. My son is at his first sleep over at grandma's house with his cousins. Never know how that will go.

I was riding along with a roadie to downtown yesterday and had to carry my bike through a section. We mainly rode along speer since a majority of the trail was closed off.

My wife was thrilled as well when she first rode 10 miles plus. I was quite happy for her. My son was ecstatic with his 3 miles. For some strange reason he was intent upon riding to grandmas house 9 miles away. :p Nope. Don't think so.

Stupid question, how do you determine your elevation gain? I have a hill in Federal Heights that I am curious about. On the way home while hauling the kid in a trailer I end up in my lowest gear literally dying at the top while riding at blazing speed of 5 mph.

Elevation gain: Use one of the route mapping sites to map the route you rode. (Don't save it when you're done if it's a one-time ride you'll never do again)

I like Routeslip (http://www.routeslip.com)

The bike I put a deposit on is a used Novarra Randonee ... I'll get it if I can't find anything better/cheaper. The bike seems to be in great shape, with the exception of a dent in the underside of the downtube. I'll go over it a lot closer before I finish paying for it.

Yeah, most of the trail was closed off... we were all riding through it, anyway. :) The water was more than 18" in one spot.

Odd. That is the bike I am riding.
Kind of slow but your engine should have a better time with it than mine. The stock wheels that came with mine where hella heavy.

I was playing with routeslip but was having issues. Must try again.

Bleh. It is not that bad of a hill. 110 feet of climbing over .4 miles.

5.2% grade

As for the bike, it's much better suited to the type of riding I'm doing than what I'm on now. I don't need the fastest bike out there, but one that's reliable and decent. I'll be replacing the front wheel almost immediately. One of the reasons for going with a used bike was so I'd have cash left over for a hub generator and light set. :)

It'll be at least a week before I go pick it up, I'll keep looking around.

Congrats to your wife!

My wife (69yo) had a knee replacement in January, and just this last week she did her first ride after the surgery. First day - 1.5 miles. 2nd day - 3 miles. 3rd day - 6 miles. Then a day of rest. She is now regularly riding 6 miles, and soon we will be back up to 20-30 miles.

But, we have to remember to take it slow and easy!!

Glad to hear she's back on the bike and enjoying herself! My wife is in a hurry to get out for another ride. :) Probably do something next weekend, as I have a brevet tomorrow and the weather is supposed to be crappy all weekend.

One of these days I'll have to meet you someplace and go for a cruise with ya!
