Hey guys,
I am a college student and just purchased my first road cycle. I have not ridden a bicycle since I was a kid. I am trying to trim some weight and live in South Tampa so I thought I would give it a try. I picked up a second hand 2005 Lemond Nevada City from a local that did not really have time to use it. Bike has been ridden about 20 times and is in excellent condition according to my friend that is into bikes. I just purchased a matching helmet, bike pump, combonation lock, and a stand. I am in need of a lighting system, shorts, and a bike odometer. Let me know if you guys have any opinions on which products to look at.

Thank You,
Asif

Hello Asif, a lighting system--there's an entire sticky in the Commuting forum about lighting systems. Take a look at that, then ask questions if any arise. I can't give you much guidance on men's shorts, but sometimes the 'women's' shorts may do the job for you too! It's a matter of chamois distribution...:) .

Go and visit the Southeast forum and say hi to your neighbours. There's at least a few other members from Tampa Bay.

Welcome to BF!

Hey, you should check out Dud Thames/Flying Fish cycles. Its a pretty big shop and the staff is pretty good. You can get a simple cyclometer (has speedometer, odometer, clock, etc.) for pretty cheap.

The shop I mentioned carries Cateye lights, which is alright, and Trek stuff, which might be on sale since they no longer carry Trek starting this year.

Oh and they repaired Bayshore's stupid mismatched sidewalks so it isn't as bumpy, if you don't feel comfortable on the road.

I also love Pearl Izumi shorts, I got mine from Flying Fish, but it can get a little pricey so you could try Canari (Sports Authority?), which is cheaper; and make sure you have a bottle/cage - you might need that.
