hello, first post so be nice...

i bought an old raleigh eclipse (1980's) off ebay for £20 and am in the process of overhauling it - good fun and a cheap way to get a good bike.

i'm trying to find a new seatpost for it but it's 26.8mm and it seems that the standard seatpost size for roadbikes is 27.2. is this because it's an old bike and just out of sync with today's standards or should I be looking somewhere else for a 26.8mm seatpost (have tried all my usual shops).

my other option is to get an ATB seatpost, which do come in 26.8 and then just hacksaw off some of the excess length I don't need.

any thoughts?

thanks

You can still get road seatposts in 26.8. Here are a couple to get you started:

ATB and road seatposts are different only in length, so that option works.
