I don't like being forced to stop half-way up a hill because of a dog. :irritated Does anyone know where I can find a doggie-bone laced in cyanide?

Can't help you with that Chris, but I can relate! I was brought to a great grinding halt yesterday by a Rottweiller whilst my wife peddaled ahead, ignorant of my dilema. Being into my 6th day of no cigarettes, I was begging the dog to come closer that I might rip his throat out, but alas...twas not to be.
It only dawned on me when he charged, that trying to outrun a dog is tatamount to suicide or at least serious injury. But at any rate, car traffic can be annoying but a dog that brings my freedom to a halt infuriates me.
Maybe I'll ride back there today and taunt it...

I'm a supporter of animal rights to some degree. Perhaps to the same degree as I support the rights of trees. I love dogs (although I'm not willing to volunteer my cat to any dog). But there is simply no reason why I should have to put up with any dog defending it's territory when the highway is not it's territory. This isn't about the animal so much as it is about the animals owner...but, if push comes to shove it will be the animal (and probably myself) that suffers. :)

Lodge a formal complaint with the authorities.
The highway is public property and the dog is a threat the owner needs to control.
Cars do not pay attention to this threat, and pedestrians may not pass that way. If you don't do anything, it's doubtful anyone else will! ;)

I'm a supporter of animal rights to a degree as well, but all it takes to solve this kind of problem is the erection of a fence. It isn't really all that difficult.
Pete, if you were referring to my post, there probably isn't much point contacting the authorities on this one, the dog lost interest in "the chase" as soon as I stopped and buggered off. I still think that's the best way to deal with dogs.

Doggie-bone laced with cyanide? How about SUVs laced with cyanide? Those animals have given me more problems than any dog has.

Anyone who lets their dog run outside their property is not caring for their "pet". If it came to my safety, I would not fear animal rights activist's rebuke for defending myself against what may be, for all practical purposes, a roaming wild animal.
I have had my neighbor's Doberman challenge me in my own yard.
Keep your dogs inside the fence. Once outside, they cannot be accounted for. We've had many cases of pit bulls attacking children mercilessly over the years. Choosing between a human's safety and that of a dog is a no-brainer.

I agree. I am a dog person myself and I would never let my dog out. Actually my dog is a 4lbs Chihuahua I also take him with me when I go on rides. I have a special bag. He likes it.
Sometimes when other dogs are nearby he starts barking and pedestrian always look puzzled trying to see why my bag is making barking sounds.
