Just got home from Goodwill. I'm looking for a bike for my daughter but got one for myself. The Sheffield Free Spirit has sturmy archer hub that has 86-12 on it. The frame has 700440016 and 489 473710 and
W1A on it, and made in Taiwan but made in England is on some parts. I spent $10, What did I get a deal or junk? Any info age etc would be great.

You got your money's worth...but we need pictures to make the true determination:D Also that is one of the better SA hubs in terms of strength.

Can't do the picture posting. The bike is very clean few scratches, wheels true it does have a chain guard and fenders. Might get a friend to help out (camera and posting) I also have a centurion I would like to get some input on. Thanks I'll show the wife, she can't understand why a 3rd bike was needed but for $10 I couldn't pass it up. I'll try to do reading about the bike and its care. What is the little black thing on the hub?

If it looks like a little flip cap...it is:p you add a squirt of oil periodically to keep it clicking happily along. FWIW in my part of the country regular old 30wt works fine. I give my heavy use bikes maybe a squirt a month the less seldom used ones once a year. Also try to park with the cap in the upright position or you may end up with an oil spot on the floor:o

I did a little reading and time oiled the chain and hub needs some brake adsustment. The tires are cracked on the sidewalls but hold air. I'll get tires before I do more than ride it around the block. Was this a Sears or Western Auto bike? It needs a rack any suggetions?

Free Spirit was a Sears brand name. Western Auto usually used names with Flyer in them; Western Flyer, Galixy Flyer, etc.
