Anyone know anything about this ride? It's around Lake Almanor. Has anyone riden it? Any idea of support, elevation gain, etc?

I was thinking of this one but it may be too far to drive in time I have available...

Yeah, I've seen their site. No route maps or really much info on the rides. I'm not familiar enough with the area to know if this means 2000 feet of climbing, 5000 feet, or 10,000, etc. I assume that it is relatively flat, but I just wanted to make sure.

I think the mid range ride goes around the lake basin area and is relatively flat... that's what I'll do if I go...

I think I am going to shoot for the 108 miler. I am doing my first century in 3 weeks (Lodi Sunrise) which is relatively flat (total climbing of 2500 feet). I am pretty sure I can handle that. I am a little concerned about stuff in the 5,000 + range.

I'm doing Lodi as well, but the metric... where did you get the total climbing for the century??? I see they talk about one climb of about 2000 feet but nothing about the total .... ;)

It's a beautiful area. I am there a few times a year for work but have never ridden around the lake on a bike. Lots of rolling hills around the lake but there are some steep roads.

I can't find it now. Here is a pretty decent description of the ride though: [URL="http://felixwong.com/news/2005/05/lodi-sunrise-century"[/URL] and a map can be found here:

Not sure if I am ready for a century either. I rode 70 miles yesterday and I didn't die, which is probably a good sign. The ride had maybe 800 feet of climbing (600 of it all in one climb), but it was at 5,000 feet so hopefully.....

We go up there several times each year. The Greenville/Indian Valley area is very flat. The roads around the lake have some rollers but not to technical. You can get into some climbing very quickly. There are several other century and other rides in that area. http://www.indianvalley.net/centuries.html (http://www.indianvalley.net/centuries.html)http://www.summersolsticecentury.org/

I believe there is about 5000ft of climbing. My dad is 70 and says its too much for him, but he really doesnt like climbing. I dont think its too bad. He knows the route and I can probably figure it out if I look at a map. Ill call him later and refresh my memory.

I really want to. Like I said my parents drive sag support, and it gives me a chance to go up and see them. Its a beautiful area and I just dont get up there enough. Jada really likes it to. We go fishing in the river right down the street from mom's house.:D

If you get the route please share. We are thinking of the Memorial Day Greenville Ride. It is a tradition for a bunch of us to go up to a friends house not far from there and go Hang gliding that weekend. I think a nice century might be a fun thing to add. We sure do love it up there.

Ok, just talked to my Dad. He said its not much in the way of climbing at all. He said maybe 2000ft. He said its more of a scenic ride. It does venture through Indian Valley. However he did mention that the elevation there is 4500ft, so that will make it a bit more challenging.

I live in Reno, so my rides are generally in the 4,000-6,000 foot range anyway. If Lodi goes well I will probably be there for this ride.

Yes Sir, I am riding the LOOK... complete w/new wheels hopefully (although I doubt my bars and seatpost will be here by then  ) YIPPEEEEE!!!!!!
I keep toying w/the idea of getting rid of the Roubaix but I've got to say, I still really like it... especially on the downhill Saturday, it was rock solid and I think the LOOK would have been much more squirrelly and scared me.... not to mention the fact that the granny gear came in handy ;)
I might break down just so I can meet your dad anyway :p

That look should decend 10 times better then the Roubaix. You just need to get used to the difference. I know the Madone felt twitchy when I first got it, but now I love it. It carves great. Lean and go. You just need some time on it. The Roubaix is slower and more relaxed.

Yeah, I realize that, I'm just not very skilled at descending yet. I really needed the stability of the Roubaix this weekend. Heck, even the Roubaix felt twitchy after riding a touring bike for so many years

I already switched with someone, because originally, I was supposed to be on-call the very same weekend as Grand Tour. These work obligations suck when it interferes with training and fun!

that's why I like to descend behind VMC, I can follow his line that way...
However, that descent was too long for me  (I know you are thinking WTF???? right now) but I was kinda nervous and grabbing the brake most of the way and my hands were really hurting at the bottom :p

You need to start letting go of the brakes, grab hard before the turn and release before going in. That way your not braking so much.

Don't follow me on descents! I rode the Woodside Loop again Monday and had TWO cars take pullouts on King's Mountain Road to let me pass! My top speed was only 39.7mph, but I was coasting... Thanks again for inviting me on the ride, you're a great group! I think I'm hooked this climbing stuff.

Wow, that's really motoring. However, I didn't check what my speed was going down King's Mountain. I was more concerned with descending without becoming a hood ornament.
