Hi, I use a Specialized Sirus Bike and I have a bike rack and bag on it.
I am going to be traveling 30+ miles a few times in the next couple months, and I don't know what i should take with me.

I need to know if i need to bring stuff like spare tires and tubes.

For the last year I have just taken a bike and so far no break downs.
I really don't want to be stranded 15 miles from home.

Let me know what you guys think.

My 'standard' load:

1 spare tube
1 patch kit
2 tire levers
1 multi-tool
1 gerber mini tool
1 first aid kit w/rubber gloves, antiseptic wipes, iodine, tylenol, bandaids, gauze patch, etc.
1 lighter with a length of duct tape wrapped around it
6 zip ties
1 Clif bar
Road Morph pump
cell phone (with 'emergency contact')
mini wallet w/cash, cc, driver's license, insurance cards
lock

lunch & jacket if necessary.

First, you are very lucky you haven't had a flat, and Chipcoms' list is very good. Personally I carry Co2 instead of a pump, but I'm lazy.

This assumes that you are using a helmet, and have at least a rear blinky, and a headlight if you ride at night.

The most common brake down you may have to encounter is a flat. At a minimum you should carry tire levers, spare tube, patch kit, and a pump. Most importantly, learn how to use them. It is also a good idea to carry ID, a couple of dollars or credit card, and cell phone.

Be sure to have enough water and/or a place to stop and refill, and some fuel (food).

I also carry rain gear as needed, and a multi tool. Just like the tire levers, spare tube, ...; the multi tool is only useful if you know how to use it. The best thing to do is keep your bike in good running order. Clean and lube the chain on a regular basis. Most modern bike specific chain lubes also act as a cleaner. I lube my chain every 200 miles or as needed.

After flats, the most common "mechanicals" are failled cables and ripped tyres.
I carry a brake and gear cable and tyre boot on longer rides. You can improvise tyre boots from any tough materials with good tensile strength, eg packing tape, dollar bills.
Ive had tyres blow out 8 miles from home and I just had to wheel it back.

That's a darn good idea, thanks for it!

15 miles daily commute, and I do 30-40 milers on the weekend.
What I bring:

- Mini-Morph pump
- 2 spare tubes (I'm lazy and don't like patching)
- Topeak Survival Gearbox
-- patch kit, screwdrivers, allen keys, chain tool, wrenches, levers
- First Aid kit
-- bandaids, guaze, tape, iodine, little bottle of cinder-soap-ish cleanser
- cell phone
- spare change

If I can't fix it with the Survival Gearbox, or I've taken a bail and broke my cell phone, I've at least got spare change as a back up to call my fiancee to come pick me up.

I carry a very minimalist list of stuff with me when I ride.

Spare tube
Small patch kit
Multitool
CO2 cartridge
Cell phone
Drivers license

All of this will fit in a small seatpost bag.

When commuting I add another tube and carry it in my backpack along with a mini-pump.
