So I had to rent a car for the weekend, first time I've driven since August, first time I've bought gas since August also, ouch, it's gone up in price.
So for the first mile or two, I'm swerving around potholes and storm grates, and then once I get on the highway one person after anouther tailgates me... turning the rental back in last night and going back to the bike was the best part of having the car.

It's really hard to bunny hop them things up a curb and onto the sidewalk too.

Driving at the maximum legal speed limit in the right-most lane is an excellent way to have the road to yourself, I have found. (In case that doesn't come across right, the point is that everyone passes you.)
You say the price of gas has gone up? Huh, I hadn't noticed.

Rented a car couple weekends ago. I was doing 130 in the slow lane, and people were still passing me. Renting it is a pain for me too, I have to take transit down to the depot, and it's expensive too. My total was 90 bucks for the weekend, plus gas.

Thats my expectation in being car free. Renting those things only when needed. They can be a handicap.

However, it's a lot cheaper then trying to keep one, heck, many people pay more then $90 a month for insurance alone, then of course there is payments, maintenance, etc.

I had the same experience a while back: I had to haul a bunch of school projects to a different town, which is impractical with a bike, borrowed a friend's truck for a couple of days, was reminded what a hassle it is to drive, and was very, very happy when I got to give it back to him and get back on the bike. The gas-price thing was a bit of a shock for me, too; I filled up the tank before I returned it, and it cost me $50.00. That's more than I usually spend on bike maintenance and public transportation in a few months.
