Northern California - OT--Oakland Bridge

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I know this is off topic, but how many of you are seriously affected by the collapse of the approach to the bridge? Will it affect the way you get around by car, or will it encourage you to ride your bike more?

The bridge didn't collapse, it was one of the fly-over approaches on the Oakland/Emeryville side a mile or two away.
I wasn't affected at all. :)

You are correct, I meant to say the approach to the bridge...:o . I've edited the first post to ask that...

I'm not affected, but due to the collapse my work offered $25 gift cards to people who bike to work a few days a week. Works for me, I bike to work anyway!
I'm not sure how much this offer will help, but at least it gets people thinking about it.

That's an interesting twist.

My wife works in Oakland coming from SF and she didn't have a problem yesterday since she can take the Grand Ave exit before the approach. She said it was pretty clear. Not sure how it is today though.
BART going to the East Bay looked a bit more crowded but going to Daly City after work was as usual.

Perhaps everyone figured the workarounds after the Loma Prieta earthquake?

onto streets intersecting with my bike commute route in W. oakland which im not to stoked about. The good thing is that with the weather getting better ther will be more cyclists out so our visability will increase..

Yes, it would have the effect of moving people onto the sidestreets. Arghhhh.
Let's hope the additional cyclists know how to go the correct way on a street :D .
