Classic & Vintage - NR jockey question (yes, I searched)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I've got 2 potential sets of replacement jockeys for my NR derailleur.
1st: SHimano, pulled from a deore mtn derailleur.
2nd: Trans-x aluminum sealed bearing jockeys.
Here's where I get confused. The Shimano jockeys are marked differently - the top one says "Centeron G Pulley", and the bottom is unmarked. Both of the Trans-X say "Centeron G-Pulley"!
Additionally, the Shimanos have a lot of lateral play, which I've been told is to help out the Hyperglide tooth profile. The trans-X have no play.
Questions:
-Since both trans-x pulleys are the same, will they be okay, or do I need to get a lower or upper specific jockey? How can I tell which is which?
-Did the original campy pulleys have any play, or were they no-play like the Trans-X.
-In general, what's the difference between upper and lower jockeys?

I'm not the Campy RD expert, here, but I thought it was not advised to try Shimano pulleys in either position on a NR. There was no difference between the two pulleys on the NR, but there is on the later Shimanos in order for that RD to work best with the whole Shim drivetrain as the engineers at Shim-central imagined it. Since you must be using your Campy NR on an older, non-Shim drivetrain, those pulleys will do you no good...I think you can fit older Suntour pulleys (which are both the same, too) on the NR.I don't know about Trans-X pulleys, but if they are marked as Centeron G Jockeys then they are both intended for the upper position of a Shimano, I'd say (the jockey pulley being upper, tension pulley the lower).
The reason I'm replying is to offer you an option 3: Bradley at American Cyclery in SF, CA had a vendor in Taiwan make replacement pulleys for the NR: CNCed delrin, with bronze bushings and SS center bolts. He was selling a pair for $16 at the swap (but probably higher price thru his shop or eBay). They looked really sanitary, FWIW.

if you are going with shimano I would use two lower pulleys as they are fairly similar to the NR, I think the centron pulley may have more lateral play? Either way the shimano should work for the interm. Everyone keeps saying they think suntour will work but I have yet to find out what suntour derailleur they are pulling them from because my 1980 and 1975 cyclones both use a fatter bolt and cheep AR and seven, honor and all the rest of the low end ones use the same larger diameter bolt, so unless they are from the late 80s suntour or superbe/superbe pro, I dunno. Again if you are going shimano use two lower pulleys.

cyclotoine, I agree with you.
Sun Tour are good replacements for Simplex. I'm pretty sure that Sun Tour are not interchangeable with Campy or Shimano - otherwise, you could replace Simplex with Shimano - which I know for a fact does not work.

I think that's why I was confused, I got Simplex/Suntour mixed with Campy/Suntour...that's another good reason why I don't swap pulleys, brand-to-brand.
Cyclotoine IS a Campy RD expert, he and Zorro got it right.
I have used the AL-alloy sealed bearing pulleys (like Carmichael) on many different makes, if you can get the right spacers or stack 'o' washers they work OK, but not as jockey wheels on a late Shimano.
