I ordered one of those goofy $35 frames from Nashbar a week or so ago. I had it shipped to my parents house because things sent here tend never to arrive. So I show up at my parents house today and what am I greeted by?

Nothing says quality like a pair of dropouts potruding from the back of a box.

I guess its not so bad... maybe. I tried to stick a tire in there to see if everything was honkey-dorey and it seems everything is not. The dropouts were (apparently) squeezed together in shipping so they're now a little closer than my tire would like. I talked to a couple bike shops and they all said it would probably be ok if I just gave them a good yank when I put the tire on. So I decided not to send it back.

Pretty beefy looking down tube and top tube for a steel frame. A little boring though, time for some painting!

One of the early coats, didn't quite have it as smooth as I liked it. I never did get it as smooth as I would like it, but then I'm not much of a (bike) tagger.

The fork should be here around Friday, then its time to get her all put together!

Wow that is REALLY blue!!

Go over it with some finer sandpaper like 1200 grit and shoot it again, and then wetsand with 2000 grit and clear over that.

So what are you going to build it up with and what will you use the bike for? I wouldn't trust a $35 frame for anything but commuting.

After seeing this my desire to order a couple of products from their site has gone. Do they pack all of their shipments like that? I’m not ordering a frame though but some clothes, and I’m thinking that if that this is a quality of service that they provide then my order will most likely come in the paper envelope, half open and missing a few things.

I bought one of these frames back in January (for $50). It came in the same kind of box, but had some protective packing with it, like foam and plastic sleeves. The frame is repainted over some other base color. Frame seems strong enough to me. I bought it for a commuting only, and put a rigid set of GT forks on it. Also, never had any problems with Nashbar. They will stand behind all their products, and have good customer service.

I'm still waiting for my replacement frame.

I ordered one, and the headtube was smashed!

That's been about 2 weeks now, and my replacement is due any day.

Here's how my frame came:

ghetto ... I guess it's a $35 frame and they ship it like a $35 frame.

******** shipping asside, I'm pretty pleased with the frame so far. The welds aren't spectacular, but they're nothing to complain about. The tubing is the biggest I've ever seen on a steel bike.

There were some pretty goofy plastic sleeves around various spots on the frame. God knows why. They were on the spots I'm less inclined to worry about, and totally neglecting the spots I was worried about; head tube, dropsouts, bottom bracket shell, etc.

The postman just arrived with my frame, the headtube was smashed again and the derailleur hanger was sticking out the other end. I rejected delivery and I'm sending it back. Let's try again!

Well, I was thinking about ordering one, but after reading this thread I will save up for a Planet X Bommer.

You guys know those are just repainted HUFFYs, right?

Seriously:eek:

I thought they were old repainted Kona's. The frame I had appeared to have much better welds than any Huffy I've seen. Sure it was heavy, but it's cheap.

How do you know they're Huffys? Not doubting you, just curious.

I ordered a helmet from Nashbar and it came in a box big enough for a refridgerator....no padding, so it just rattled around.
