Texas - DFW Vintage Bicycle Owners & Riders

How many DFW riders have old steel that they ride regularly? After I get back in the saddle I'd love to organize a ride to bring out all the great lugged vintage rides out for a nice stretch.

I know jsharr and lotek both have a vintage ride...

And at least one of us rides ours on a regular basis!

Depends on what you mean by vintage.

I've got an 80s Colnago SL single-speed conversion (with a broken spoke in the rear wheel). I bought it well-used in 1989. I'm not sure of the exact year of manufacture.

I've also got a TSX Eddy Merckx that my brother bought from former pro 7-Eleven rider Tommy Matush. I got it in the mid-90s, but I know it was raced earlier than that. As near as I can figure out, the last time he raced for 7-Eleven was in 1990.

In any event, I'm up for a ride.

If its lugged steel then its close enough in my book. Some will say it's 84 or older, but in my book if it's lugged steel (even the newer frames from custom builders that carry on the traditions of the lugged steel frame) then it's ok to me.

Sounds like fun. I have a bike or two that would qualify.

Not sure what year the Falcon was built, think it is of 80's vintage.

I've been in the process of trying to organize a vintage ride also. I've talked to several people about it all want to do it. We were thinking maybe at White Rock Lake on a Sunday afternoon for a lap or two, then hand out admiring the classic steel. I was going to call it the Retro Road Ride. Extra cool-points for wearing a wool jersey, and extra-extra points for bringing (not wearing) a hairnet. Maybe even have some free t-shirts to give away.

Now if Marty can just get that Ziel on the road...ooops, never mind...

UpTown cycles has a ride every Sunday night. They travel from the bike shop to a few local bars and back. Everyone rides cruisers, SS, fixies, and vintage bikes. Maybe we could have a BF meet and greet at their ride.

Heck I might even put clips and straps on the Falcon and break out my 80's Specialized shoes for this one. I have a few old jerseys, but nothing made of wool and probably nothing that fits me anymore. The older I get the more of me there is!

Not all of us are on cruisers, SS, fixies, and vintage bikes. Sometimes I ride my Catamount. Others are also on more modern rides. But yeah, there are a lot of vintage rides there.

The cool thing about that ride is the fact that all bikes are welcome, as are all skill levels and interest levels.

I'm always open to meeting more people on that ride.

I'd be glad to join that ride. My 1997 Bob Jackson Messina is 531 and lugged.

I do the Uptown ride, too...I'm in if BF wants to do a vintage ride...I'll ride my Univega.

Definately in if I'm available. Any excuse to pull out the LeMans. Speed up that recovery, son!

This sounds like fun. I've never been in a group ride, except for the few times I tagged along with some folks that pedal along my commuting route, on Royal Ln.

I ride an '83 Austro-Daimler, manganese alloy mixte. It's lugged so I think it qualifies ;).

I'm there as long as I'm not teaching scuba diving or in Amsterdam or Switzerland
(yah, got a road trip for work).
David, how's the silver paint? the one for the 'Dale? if its good paint the fork

While I have spent most of my time on the forum just reading posts and have wanted to join a BF ride in the past (I almost always work on Saturday when most of the rides happen), a vintage ride sounds like a lot of fun. None of my stable is high end, but I do love vintage steel and include a 68 Grand Prix, a 71 Super Sport and an 83/84 (?) Fuji Espree among regular riders. Occasional riders include a 74 Raleigh Sprite and a 71 Schwinn Racer. Vintage R Me. I would love to see everyones steeds. I'll keep an eye on this discussion and hope to join you.

ticwanos - my first roadie was an 80 Schwinn Traveler, my secondary vintage (I guess now it's going to be third string when the Serotta gets done) was originally a Centurion Sport DLX. Nothing wrong with the bike boom iron. :) We'll try to schedule the ride so that as many people as possible can make it.
