Hey there folks:

I have finally indulged a friend of mine (who runs his own publishing company) to write a book about my world cycling tour. Now, I have a lot to say but i don't want to preach that my-way-was-the-best way, so I want you guys to help me out with your touring expertise. Two questions for starters...

(1) what was the gearing you used? What were the teeth on your front chainrings, and your rear freewheel?

(2) what was your favorite touring tire?

I know we have discussed these before...and if they are archived somewhere, fine.

I'll give acknowledgement to folks who make great suggestions. Immortality looms if you get into my book, so fire away!

I have a Hybrid bike as my tours tend to be in hilly area's and fully loaded:
Front chain-rings 22/32/42
Rear - 11/12/13/15/17/20/24/30
In the lowest gear you can ride up the side of your house!

Current tyres are Conti Top Touring 2000 (28mm) They have served me well so far...will see after my 3500km ride in Europe starting in August.

Hey, Roughstuff, you can give me credit in your book as "the beer-drinking touring cyclists who needed help with gearing, known eloquently as Braumeister."

1. 28/38/48 with 13x34 in back (I performed surgery on an 11x34 to make the custom 13x34--this adds a 14t and 13t with build-in end spacer). Yields: 13,14,15,then the rest of the standard block.

2. Conti Top Touring--what else is there. Tires for long distance touring are critically important. Why not slurge for the best?
