BMX - odyssey hazard

just a quick question. i know i should have searched this, but is the hazard lite the best midrange rim? by 'best' i mean value for money. im looking at buying one in the next few days and lacing it to my hazard hub.

All of Odysesy's rims are great. And i wouldn't say there is a best rim, but i think if there was Odyssey would be far up in the running. Personally i have a 7kA in the front and a Hazard lite in the back and they are both great.

Primo Hulahoops and Sun Rhynolites are also good.

yes. for the money the hazard lites are very good, i run one in the back and im a fatass and i have yet to **** it up.

Sun Big City's are amazing aswell, i've had mine since september and there are still no dings at all in it. It isn't even heavy either. Plus it's cheap

yeah i've got a sun rhyno lite on there at the moment and have had no problems with it. the only reason im looking for a new rim is because the chrome is starting to corrode pretty badly.

I have been running a proper in back since christmas time and it has been real good. SOOO much cheaper than odyssey, a tad lighter, and they come in badass colors.

Also, random wheel building tip. You're better off spending more money and getting better spokes like DT swiss or Marwai and a cheaper rim (proper for 50) than getting a real expensive strong rim (gsport like $90) but cheaping out on the spokes. Hazards are like $65, but I personally chose to get the $50 rim, and spend the money on nice spokes and have had 0 problems.

yeah i suppose, the 7ka is only a little more expensive. is it worth it though? i heard it was super light (in a good way haha).

The KA is 1lb 2oz. The Hazard Lite is 1lb 3oz. I'd spend the extra money on good spokes like I said before, you will be way happier in the long run.

also, check out the hoffman generator rims. They are only $40 1lb 2oz, come in chrome and supposedly hold up just as well as the Hazard lights

The 7kA is a stronger grade of aluminum which coincidently happens to be lighter. I think it's better and worth it. I wish they still made the Duralectra's. Those were great too.

I'm just saying for the cost, a hoffman rim, laced with marwai spokes to a hub would last better than a 7ka laced with generic spokes to a hub.

Also, if youre going to spend $89, you may as well go with the GSPORT rims which are pretty much badass. (as long as you keep your tire pressure going)

gsport rims are very average. ive seen like 6 of them buckled to the ****. and the people that were rinding them were not huckers either. i run a primo balance 7000 and a 7ka and i havent had any problems.

and i also agree with sprintcar. good spokes= good wheel.

and a tip for you ballina kid. byron bay bicycles can get just about any bmx brand you want. and i mean any.

Lots of people around here running g-port rims with no problems. Quite a few running balanes with no troubles too, but I still hate primo and those gay rims.

This may be true but, i got my 7kA laced to a Odyssey Vandero race for $100. So i'm not complaining, i got a great deal on a super lightly used wheel.

Anywho, i'm forever loyal to Odyssey 7kA's And all of the Hazard family rims.

The first batch of balance rims were pretty worthless. Pretty sure guys like vinnie sammon, blackman, and a lot of those east coast guys run the new version no problems.

People assume the gsport rims will be indestructible. (people unfortunantly have this idea about odyssey/gsport) They are not indestructible, but they are for their weight probably the strongest rim you could get. However, because of the thin sidewalls they dent if you don't run enough tire pressure. If you get a ****ty wheelbuild and you are sketchy as ****, you will probably still manage to ruin the rim.

Same thing with the wombolts. People thing they are indestructable, but they are just another chunk of metal. Statistically stronger, but there can be issues like incorrect installation that can lead to them getting damaged or broken.

There is always a chance of error by the cyclist that can help to lead to the destruction of parts. If you don't do things right, your parts have a much greater chance of breaking.

So how do primo spokes compare to DT swiss? What about titanium spokes, sometimes I can find a good deal on them. But I'm not sure if they are worth it/strong enough...

Primo spokes have bad reviews and DT swiss spokes are supposed to be very good. Titanium spokes should be avoided at all cost.

DT swiss only make black and silver spokes right?

yeah byron is definately where ill be buying from. i think i saw you working there a couple of weeks ago. how much would it cost me to get a hazard laced to my hub (approx)? ill be buying some other parts from there aswell in the near future (tyres, headset, stem, etc).

Titanium spokes should be avoided at all cost.

I've ran them on my back wheel since it was built, I've had to tension it twice since then but I've had no problems with it.

1 dollar per spoke plus 120 for the rim and some more if we build it for you.

that sounds pretty good to me. ill probably be getting some new tread for that wheel also (fly ruben most likely). but yeah ill hopefully be in there on the weekend or before.
