...getting a flat?

I've mentioned to a few people how many miles I've gone without a flat. Some just wrote it off as, "Cuz you don't weigh very much." Others are just amazed. I'm not going to post the number of miles I've gone flat-free because the moment I do, I know I will flat on my next ride. Karma, ya know.

But I'm curious... what's the farthest you've ridden (on one bike) without flatting?

I've gone about 3000 miles on the Roubaix with no flats.... none on the LOOK yet either but that one doesn't have a lot of ride time

Ya know, this thread is going to jinx everyone ... all I know is I passed 2,000 miles this year, and just got a flat on Saturday's ride. I can't even remember the last time I got a flat ... so probably add 3,000 miles to that.

Longest is about a year & half, about 10000 miles or so.

I'll go months without a flat. Maybe 2000 miles, then I'll get 2 in one weekend.:D

My last flat was in August 2006, about 2400 miles ago. About 2200 of which were on Vivian. This was done on relatively lightweight tires (Specialized Mondo Pro, Specialized Mondo S-Works, and Michelin Pro2 Race) with standard or thin road tubes. And I didn't exactly avoid rain (Baldy Challenge comes to mind) or rough roads (Breathless Agony preview comes to mind). Of course, it helps that I weigh next to nothing and run relatively low tire pressures.

Flat? What is this flat thing you speak of? If there ever were such a thing, I have yet to experience it in the 4000+ miles I have ridden my bicycle.

Let's see. . . . I bought my Roubaix last August, and never flatted on its tires (Spec. All-Condition Pro, I think). About 3,000 miles. I replaced them with Mich Pro-Race2s just before the Wildflower. So we'll see how these do. The majority of flats I've had have come from defective or broken valves, not from road hazards. Does this match others' experiences?

I refuse to post in this thread.

Edit: Dammit!

Prior to 3 months ago, one flat in over a year. Then,

two on the Wildflower, + >10 in last 3 months.

Think I found it though. Very small piece of metel in my rear tire. Had to use a magnifying glass to see it. All the flats were on the top of the tubes, and all on the rear tire. This has got to be the culpret.

I was getting ready to throw in the towel and take up sittin on the couch again!

you changed your tube every time you changed the tires OR you had a flat every time you changed the tire?

Sorry you're now the flat king.... I'm sure you're getting all of the flats intended for me ;) what a gentleman!

I went 4 years without getting a flat... on my track bike... (on the track)

Haven't had an actual flat since April of last year (knock on wood), but the tubes developed slow leaks in December so I replaced them since they would lose about 5 psi per hour.

I had that same thing happen. 7 Flats in a row and I said forget it and called the rescue crew to come get me. It was 105+ degrees out so maybe my bike was just melting....

I hope never to see that day again!

mine was the result of springtime thorns...at one point i literally got a flat 150 feet after fixing one. after awhile i just rode as long as i could with a bunch of visible thorns stuck in the tire...that sucked

and partly due to that...i am REALLY fast changing flats!!!

oh, probably about a whopping 64 (Monday was an hour on the mtn bike) and I'm not counting spin miles :p ... I'll be out again tomorrow... and YES I am feeling guilty about ignoring my bikes for so long!

1,000 miles, there was no close second,400 miles or 2 months, whichever comes first is more typical.I've always ridden in glass strewn areas, have skidded to stop as well,as many others do,I'm sure.

Any time on the bike counts, no matter if it's actually on the road, or spinning. At least you are out there, Trac. I didn't ride today because of threats of rain ... it only poured for about 30 minutes earlier this morning. I could have ridden to work .... doh!

I haven't had a flat since I started using Slime tubes - MONTHS. I've ridden through cactus patches, jumped off ledges, gone down serious rocky sections...

Oh wait - you're talking about the skinny tires again aren't you?

I've logged just over 300 miles in the past two months since I got my road bike and I've had three flats - two of them were in North San Diego County. Obviously not very far.

I don't know exactly, but I've gone thousands of miles without getting a flat. Generally if I'm vigilant and replace the tires when they start to wear out I won't get flats. If I get a flat, it's almost always because the tire is shot and I change it ASAP. I run Michelin Krylons and get about 1200-2000 on a rear and maybe 2000-3000 on a front...

I get around one flat a week on my mtb because I ride it in my yard to exercise my dog. We have a lot of thorny weeds but I am working on clearing them so hopefully this will change soon. Might break down and get some slime tubes though-or go tubeless.

I had 385 miles on my MTB without a flat.... the night before a ride I was saying how lucky I've been...... the next day my coworker and I did the luge and finished off at Cooks Corner for some beer and all you can eat spaghetti dinner, while eating I looked at our bikes and BOTH Eric and I had front tire flats. replacing our tires at the table was good entertainment for the others sitting near us.

the best part...... Eric had changed his front tube at the flag only 15 minutes before... hahaha

I haven't gone thousands of miles, but that's exactly what I do. Aside from a tire failure sidewall blowout, several bad incidents with presta valves inflating a tire (til I got a decent pump), I've only had flats on tires that are wearing. I ran Conti touring & Conti Gatorskins for the most part. After the sidewall blowout I got the Roubaix Armadillo Elites, I'm still on my first set of those. I don't think they roll as well, but they're holding up great, who knows.

at least 3000 on Vredestein Fortezzas @ 140psi. theres still plenty of life still in those tires and not one flat (im only 130lbs). i changed to 700x20 Forte Pro SL's and got a flat on the rear 500 miles in. I left them on for a couple training rides after a race.

In the US, I got exactly _one_ flat in two years of riding (several thousand miles).

In Denmark, I get one every few weeks (several hundred km's).

I flat now and then, but most of my problems come from slow leaks out of 99cent budget tubes...;o)

I'm soo tight!
