This morning on the way to work I saw the most powerful strobe lookin' rear red blining light! It was on the back of some fixie that a DUI guy was ridin to work. I knew he was DUI by the cig in his mouth and blue jeans. But I give him credit for wanying to be seen. At first I did not realize what I was looking at and had thought I was looking at some red stobe light flashing. Anyone know the make of this very powerful and bright light? I must get one. Might need it if I ever get a DUI!:)

:o I used to bike in jeans with a cig in my mouth... and I've never driven under the influence...
(It was on a '52 huffy 3-speed, and I once did a 40-mile ride on it, with the help of 10 cigs)
A pipe gives a lot cooler "locomotive" visual effect though...

Let me do the math...40 miles and you had 10 cigs. That is one cig every 4 miles. On a '52 Huffy the speed was about 12 mph. [best guess with such a land yacht] That was a cig about every 20 minutes! I hope you are done w/ those things.;)

I only smoke when climbing...makes the climb go a little bit slower. :D

I have the light you are talking about, but I can't remember the brand. It cost something like $24 atthe LBS. I have only seen the light at one shop. Planet Bike does sound right, though.
It is ridiculously bright and I often feel bad about using it, but you can see it extremely well during the day, which is when I ride. My wife's typical Target blinky can't be seen at all during the day, and it's pretty much useless (again, as we only ride during the day).
I know it is annoying to look at, but the point is that if you annoy a driver because of your rear blinky, then they definitely saw you in the first place, which is the point. Also, because of the light, I feel I get a lot of respect from motorists. I have over 550 miles logged in a big city just this season, and not once have I been harrassed or honked at (although my wife has--once they found out she was with me, they scurried away in their huge 24-foot dock truck).
If I am doing a mixture of road and MUPs, I try to remember to turn off the blinky on the MUP, but I do forget to turn it off more often than not.

it's xenon which is supposed to be much brighter than led, I like the idea of a taillight than can be seen flashing during the day.

Actually, since it was mostly flat, the land yacht effect was minimized, and I averaged 15-18. 5 of the cigs were at the end, and the other five were spaced out at about 1 every 1/2 hour. Of course I probably would have died if I tried to make it up any serious hill.
I quit last November...

I have both these lights I wear the Blackburn on my helmet and the cateye on the bike. The helmet one drives people crazy if I forget its on :D

Good for you man! I don't smoke while I ride although I don't do a lot of long distances just errands around town and commuting, but I love it when I get the "He must have an OWI! He is riding a bike" treatment. I had a drunk guy in a liquor store a few months ago ask look at me with great concern and compassion and ask, "Bummer man, when do you get your license back?"

Dinotte tail light is also absurdly bright.
Also, that was probably a scene kid, not a dui dude.
