Seriously though, go to you local shop and talk to the bossman. Maybe they'll let you help out.

Well, I would strongly suggest you go down and apply soon. The whole process of being hired can take awhile. I'm 17 and I'm a bike mechanic at my local shop, and it's really great. I came into the job with a somewhat decent amount of knowledge, but they have worked me so well that I am now a lot more experienced. What I did though was I went in and asked to see the manager, then I really overwhelmed him with saying how much I wanted to work there. I also made sure to give a follow-up call the day after each interview/time I met with the manager. In the end, he was really impressed with my enthusiasm, and he gave me the job.

+1 to goldbam. I am a 16 yo mechanic and I think enthusiasm is key. We have a fair amount of kids coming in looking for a job, but I hardly ever see a follow up. Knowing somebody in the shop is a plus, but if you don't know anyone just be friendly and interested.

Where do you work, goldbam? I'm considering applying for a job at Recycled Cycles when I get back from Guatemala this summer in late August/early September.

I work at Gregg's Cycles in lynnwood, it's the relocated gregg's aurora shop. It's really a great place to work, and the environment is awsome. Definitely the best job I've ever had. You would really love it skabaconska
