Mountain Biking - hardrock pro or ironhorse warrior

Hello all, i am new to this forum and i need some advice as to what bike to buy. I can get a Hardrock pro with Marzocchi MZ III and Sram X - 7s front/rear and Avid shifter for $550 which sounds pretty good. However I can also get a Iron Horse Warrior Expert with Marzocchi MZ I forks and Sram X.0 shifters and derailluers for $580. I am puzzled, which is the better deal and which will stand up through the long haul. Any advice would help thanks, DR.

ps im mostly going to be using the bike for getting around town but also for some trail riding and small hits.

Dead, they are both damn good bikes. I had a Rockhopper and went to a new 06 Warrior Expert and love it. Has the SRAM X7 drive rear/front derailers and shifters, Avid BB5 disc brakes, Marzocchi MZ 1 front suspension, and eyeletted strong wheelset. I am more than happy with it...solid shifts, excellent frame (lifetime warranty), and really like the slightly compact feel of the frame.
Fixed's reply to you is either he is kidding you or just stupid. I picked up my IH at Performance on a sale and also got the bonus dollar points too. Oh, and they also have free adjustments as long as you own it...very good deal. Good luck and assume you have ridden both? There will be a difference. You can also check out www.rscycle.com for the IH (and K2) line.

Agree with jimx200, both are great bikes. I just picked up a new Hardrock Sport Disc just to
have a HT to play around on just to change the pace from my FS Giant AC and I'm lovin
the crazy thing. I've had it out four times and love how it handles. It took a little getting
used to in the real nasty rocky sections however it handles great. It actually comes down
to which one do you like best? Whichever one feels best to you, that's the one you should
buy.

Hard to believe the Warrior Expert comes with x.o for under $600, that would be a really sweet deal. There is little difference between those low end marzocchi shocks, they are little more than springs without dampening.

I don't know if you are already considering the Performance Bicycle 10% membership. That costs $25 but you get the $25 back and 10% of the $580 in Performance in-house money. It's not cash back but money off on your next purchase. That would be over $80 (I think) that you could spend in house. Right now they have a Marzocchi MX Pro fork for $220 so minus the $80 it would be $140 + tax. Then you'd have another $14 credit for a kickstand and bottle holder. So for around $750 total you'd be really set up with a very enviable mtb (x.0, really?).

Did he really say kickstand? Surely you're kidding...everybody knows that kickstands are ghetto!

Seriously, try them both out and grab what feels good. If the Iron Horse has X0 that's a steal for the money. I have a Hardrock myself and really like the bike. It's a bit heavy but it does what I want it to do. I did take off the stock fork and install a RS Reba Team and some Juicy 5's but otherwise the bike is stock and is very fun to ride.

Kickstands will get you killed on the trail genius. Just imagine one coming down in a technical section of a trail hopping over a rock when suddenly BOOM the kickstand plants itself into the rock throwing you into a nice tree that just happens to be nearby.

Keep the kickstand on the lil' ol' lady comfort bike

I've actually seen a kid impale himself with the kickstand. It was all wobbly and didn't stay in the up position. Anyways, he crashed, "endoed" and the bike came down on top of him. Well, the kickstand was sticking out and it got him right in the calf muscle. About a 2" deep puncture! Had to get 4 stiches as well! (lots of blood) Also, if you've ever had a puncture wound, you know how much they hurt!
