Yo.
I am Alan.
First real bicycle was my 12th-year birthday present. 10-speed Schwinn road bike. Cycled the Tennessee back roads shoulderless and curvy for days...mostly to steal cigarettes and beer and to find a place to drink beer and smoke cigarettes. "Breaking Loose" (or was it "Breaking Free") was one of my favorite movies. That and "At Close Range".
After that period which lasted a few years, I got a car, forgot the bike, and started skateboarding much more intensely. Started cycling again in the early 90s with stripped down beach cruisers. Just frames and coaster brakes, Chuckles. Couple years with that until I forgot to pick up my cruiser from a former landlord and lost the bike to a resentment over a couple incidents of loud girlfriends...at least, that's my guess, Manchester.
Now, after numerous hand-me-down road and mountain bikes that didn't fit my short stature, I spent some dough and gots me another 80s model Schwinn. eBay+bikeshop bonebox+afternoon wrenching = fun on wheels, Hamstray.
Planning to jump on the fixie bandwagon...
