hey all. just found this forum...looks like a wealth of experience and knowledge, which is exactly what i need.

I'm a roadie from Victoria BC. I've been riding for about a year now...mainly alone...though i did some 'drop in' crit racing on the mainland (mission raceway), i'm otherwise green in terms of racing...I would like to get more involved in that aspect. as fun as wheel sucking* cars is, i think i'd be better off getting my speed thrills in a controlled environment. :-)

my main topic of interest is training techniques...how do i become faster? I know 'ride more with faster people' is a popular answer...there has to be more of a science to it than that! I have a new HRM which I would like to incorporate into my riding.

*my new favorite term thanks to this site.

Hello the_drain, you are not the only member from Victoria, so you might want to scoot over to the Western Canada regional forum and say hi to the other locals. They may be able to assist with finding those faster people :) .

I don't ride to race, so I'm afraid I'm not much help to you with your question, but

Welcome to BF!

I'm working on getting my husband to act as my sag wagon sometime next year--I want to ride the length of Vancouver Island :) .

would you take the old island highway or new island highway? the old island highway would be a tad longer but a much more beautiful ride.

I want to ride to comox (where my folks live)...but am planning to pit stop in nanaimo for the night at a friends house.

I've driven most of the length of the old highway, and it is spectacular! Got just the right amount of hills, too :D . So, yes, that's the route I'm planning.

I live in Victoria as well, but I tour mainly. You may want to check out the LBS's and hook up with the race groups. Lots of info out there. Welcome to the Island. I see summer has finally arrived
