I just wanted to comment in here, saying how much Bike Forums (especially SoCal) has inspired, and motivated me to keep riding, and riding long distances. Before, I really had to work on motivating myself, especially in preparation for the triple crown, and those doubles. Reading all the stories in here, and how everyone is so motivated every week to go beyond the comfortable rides, and push the limits. Reading BF has really given me back my mojo, and I'm really into my training now.

I just wanted to go on record saying this. My box of napkins is getting low ...

Time for bed, and get ready for another 109 miles of climbing ... weeeee :D

That's very nice, Ron. :) Yes, BF and the community certainly can motivate. I know I've been motivated by many riders here. It's a wonderful way to meet others with the same passion, share advice, go have some drinks and hook up until you're crying mercy and begging for the cuffs to be loosened. OH...wait...that's that OTHER forum. :p Sorry. I meant - great way to get motivated about riding....um....cycling! :D

Of course, BF also has a way of completely depressing a person as well! Like when I see you are getting ready for 109 miles of climbing....I'm not even getting that much in a week! And Cruising is coming up next Sat! (and some Nocal lunatics want to take me up Old La Honda road in a few weeks...)

Seriously, my best goals have been shoved into place by this forum..

Well, I think, Sheldon, that any goal is a worthy one. Just because there are some of us who want to ride until we can't walk straight doesn't mean others have too in order for their goals to matter. Just getting out and pushing yourself (on your terms) or joining on any ride is enough. I know that when riding with other BFers, we don't say things like, "Well, so, I finished that double and a half century with 19,000 feet of climbing yesterday. And last week I rode 128 miles in two hours and 13 minutes, my personal best to date. And you?" It's more like, "My ass hurts, how long is this ride we're on?...I hate this stupid Garmin, piece of crap...ooh, I like that jersey, where did you get it?...I can't wait to eat...Do they serve beer?":p

 Isn't this the truth! What I mean is that I've used BF as my springboard to goals I didn't know I would have...riding Centuries, falling over in clipless pedals, walking around in tight shorts with a pad....you know...important stuff! It's all about perspective...who was it who wrote "Don't sweat the small stuff.....and it's ALL small stuff!"

Most definitely, BF, and especially this community has motivated me. I've been racking up more miles than I've ever have in the past, and not to mention my time posing off the bike has been rapidly decreasing....and that's the honest truth. :)

Nope, not me! After seeing how fast these people climb on BA? I'm selling my bike and taking up Ping-Pong!:D

Something else that motivates me ... a woman, climbing a hill, who you know is definitely stronger than you, but something in you wants to push it and keep up. Something about those triathlete legs.

So are you inspired to have more bikes than any other BFer, or are you trying to have more bikes than all of us combined?

Actually, Im pretty content this week.:D I ride the Look during the week with its standard double, to build strength on my shorter rides. The Trek with the compact is my climbing bike, I rode it today.:D The Look is also a lb heavier. Im not one to much care who has what or how many, I personally just love bikes and I ride all of them.:D

Good ... he's got extras ... he can donate them to the BF visitors fund, for folks traveling from out of town who go crazy going without riding while on business trips

Platforms my frind, platforms....

and to keep it on topic,
BF does motivate me to ride more and longer.
But what is does best is motivates me to ride with other people
more often.

The SoCal BFers I've met and rode with are the coolest people I've met in a long time.
Although I must add, my increased interest in cycling has become a detriment to my running and swimming workouts. :o

I always said cyclists are the coolest, and SoCal BFers are the funny, wackiest group. Every time you pass a cyclist, it's met with a smile, and happy waves. Whenever I pass a runner, I could see the pain in their face. Swimmers ... well can't even see their faces. :D

Actually, triathletes are a very friendly bunch.

They're just a little, um... obsessive compulsive.

In a good way. I think. :p

Wanna go for a bike ride?
Yeah!
And let's go run 20 miles afterwards!
Can we do ocean speed work afterwards?
Hooray!

Yea, I know ... a triathlete chick helped me up the last hill on my ride yesterday. No wonder she looked so fit and trim. Had to suck in my gut while I was riding with her ... lol
