View Full Version : BF Membership
I see in the User Control panel that there is a membership subscription link which sends you to paypal where you can make a donation. My question is, once I make my donation for a membership upgrade how does Joe or a Mod know it's from me? There isn't a place in the PayPal form to put in your username.

When you pay via PayPal, the payment is tied to your email address. The system is set up to assume that you use the same email address for PayPal as you did when you registered for BikeForums. If your PayPal email is different than the one you registered with here, you'll need to send Joe a PM letting him know that you've paid for a membership with a specific email address, and that it it actually you.
Send it to Paypal@bikeforums.net, and let me know. I'll take care of it from there.

Ok, I must be stupid or something ... I don't see a membership subscription link in my control panel. What does the red star and blue start indicate? If it is upgraded membership, what does it give you?
Red stars are for donating members (usually). We have donated some stars, and some donating members have asked not to have stars.
Blue stars are for moderators or administrators.
No stars are for Sneetches on beaches.

Red star gives you moral smugness and fewer viewed ads.

Figured out how to upgrade membership ... was searching for it all night, then finally found it.

Moral smugness?
Moral smugness?Smugly superior to those with no star.

And the blue stares are even cooler cause I get to read all the inappropriate stuff long after it's been deleted! Muahahaha.

I know the payment was originally started to help joe fund the site (not really for him to profit) so now that it's company owned, how will the "donations" be used? Or are they no longer considered donations?

i'm also accepting donations.

They helped Joe cover the server bill, which currently is much more than the donations could hope to cover. I'm guessing that future donations will be used to offset the costs associated with running the forums, and that the new owners may even want to recoup their investment.
