Hi All,
I've been a lurker on these forums for quite awhile now but never posted. I picked up this bicyle recently on eBay that has got me stumped. It seems quite light with a fillet brazed (I think thats what they are called) frame and a fancy design around the head tube. The bottom bracket is a threadless unit made by Bayliss Wiley that simply slots in and is secured with a lockring. There are remains of what looks like orange paintwork under a cheap homedone respray. The only serial number i can find is stamped on the rear left hand drop out, I think it reads 2017.
I know this is a long shot but has anyone seen anything similar, maybe they could point me in the right direction?

Pictures below, I'm not too bothered if it comes to nothing, the bicycle didn't cost me too much, it was part of a pair the other had quite a few decent parts I can use.

That lugless/faux lug construction looks Claud Butler-ish as does the seat binder. Certainly the Bayliss Wiley BB and fork boss for a lamp braket peg it as English. I have one of the BBs that come as a complete non-threaded unit. That's a cool crankset design.

Neal, thanks for the reply - you could be right about it being Claud Butler-ish. I did a little more searching and found this site - http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nkilgariff/ClaudButler.htm - with many old catalogues. After looking through I found a 1976/77 model called the "Velox" very similar cranks, the same handlebars, same colour paint even... but I don't want to jump to any conclusions. I can't really see from the scans the lug work, and the crankset although very similar in chainring design, should be cotterless and mine has cotters.
Does anyone know around what time Bayliss Wiley were producing these threadless BB units? It would give me a good point from which I could narrow down my search.

I don't know about the history of those BBs, but if that's a Williams crankset (as it looks to be the same as this one on eBay: http://tinyurl.com/26a7dm), it might have a date code.
