Introductions - hello....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

There are quite a few members on Long Island, check with the Northeast regional forum to see who else is out there. I think that your Advance is pretty good for a starter bike, and since I don't think you're going to see much hardcore singletrack out there, it will probably do for a few years at least :D .

whats up, and welcome to BF :) I am from Long Island also, Northport to be specific. There are alot of good trails in suffolk county. are you from suffolk or nassau? Right on the suffolk/nassau border there are two well known and pretty decent trails for mountain biking. Stillwell loop and Greenbelt. (http://www.singletracks.com/php/trail.php?id=847)

I was wrong! That's why it's always good to talk to the locals :) . I'm going to have to remember that about the MTB trails. Thanks Minesbroken!

;) anytime. I dont know how true it is but the greenbelt and the stillwell loop were both voted into the top 100 mb trails in the country and stillwell was in the top 50.
I have ridden all over the east coast and have found that every trail presents its own set of challenges.
I have trails near me called mahopac. its right near keyspan in northport. some very challenging climbs, jumps and root hills that are like steps almost.

remember that how challenging a trail is depends on how advanced you are. I have taken some seasoned mtb'ers into stillwell and they all thought it would be easy. Now they go back all the time on there own because they thought it was challenging. add the greenbelt run to the stillwell loop and you have a nice between 18 and 24 mile ride in each direction depending on the route you take.
