I currently have an IRO fix/fix MTB hub at 135mm. I need to see if I can make it more narrow. Anything under 130mm would be good. I see that the hub basically just has a big spacer over the bearings, but it is threaded obviously. Should I see about getting that machined to be thinner? Or is there another one I can buy?

Whoa whoa whoa... put down your power tools.

Just get some cone wrenches, remove the spacers, and reassemble. You'll be down to 120mm in no time.

There are no spacers per se. The only thing that's there is the big fat block that screws in over the sealed bearings and is knurled on one side. I just need to find thinner ones or make these thinner.

OK I'm an idiot. Those are spacers. I've never worked on a sealed bearing hub. All they do is psace the hub out to 135mm. I can make a new spacer that is thinner. The spacer is 13mm wide, so if I want to make the hub a 120, I need to get rid of 7.5mm per side. I'll use old wheel bolts and grind them down to the right thickness (7.5mm each) and then that'll bring it to 120mm spacing.
