you know as a new cycling fan, this is really getting depressing. Between the riders and the media I am really getting tired of it all. I guess maybe I should just ride and not worry about what the big boys are doing.

Jax, as a huge fan of Basso I know where you are coming from. I am quite frustrated by all the doping scandals, but as pointed out in the Armstong? thread, I think its likely that these guys are all using perfomance enhancement to some degree. If you accept that, and just watch the races and enjoy them then its still a great sport to watch. The downside is that at any time it could be your favorite rider that gets the short end of the stick so to speak and has to pay for his sins as Basso will do now.

Consider the alternatives...NFL? MLB? NBA? Track? Swimming? even the World Cup atheletes are doping. Like it or not, its now a part of elite sports, and chances are the great performance you just observed was in some way shape or form influenced by chemistry.

Thanks for making my day! You, sir, are lightyears ahead of just about everyone else in this forum. Enjoy your ride and put in a few miles for me, LOL.

Ivan Basso is saying he tried to dope, but didn't actually dope so all his victories were clean. That reminds me a lot of the I smoked pot, but didn't inhale response Clinton gave.

For a second I thought Basso was going to be a stand up guy and admit what he did. Now it looks like he is just going to lie about something else because he knew the DNA test would confirm it was his blood.

The problem with Basso admitting he lied to everyone in the past is that it is tough for him to then say, but now I am telling the truth - trust me.

The fact of the matter is that his blood was in a refridgerator somewhere. It is obvious that he possibley intended to dope but can they prove that he actually did it. That is the question. If he sets aside his own blood for possible future use but doesn't use it has he broken the rules?
