Chain Stains!

I have a problem with oily chain marks on my cycling clothing, anyone know of a way or product that will remove these unsightly marks?

Permatex/DL handcleaner.

Rub it into stain, wash as usual.

Check for color fastness, first.

I recall well the "bad old days" of black chain marks on my calves, socks, and/or trouser legs.

Unless your chain is exposed to alot of water, consider switching to a wax-based lubricant, such as White Lightning.

I don't know if it would be a good thing for synth fibers like dri-fit or Cool Max or other like that, but believe it or not good old WD-40 will get lots of stains out of clothing, as will automotive handcleaners like Goop and Fast Orange. My mother-in-law told me about the WD 40 and I was really skeptical until I saw what it did for diesel and hydraulic stains.
Be careful testing it on jerseys and stuff though.
Unfortunately I can tell you that some stains are yours to keep once they are there...I have a Cool Max T that is my favorite summer top and it's got road oil all over the back from years ago. Nothing worked there.:mad:

A workshop handcleaner can dissolve oil pretty well and wont harm clothing. You can then wash the stuff out with water.
Wax-based lubes wont mess up your trousers.

According to a chemist friend who cracked the formula while developing a new line of bicycle lubricants and solvents, WD40 = kerosene + vanilla extract.

Use it accordingly.
