Where can I start? Lightly packed bearings or cheap plastic bits?

I would like to agree with DieselDan here: My $259 bike had it's crank bearings replaced due to the races of said bearings being plastic, and I had worn them out. --In little over a year of riding. . .

That sounds easy enough to fix. Any other issues ? I know that it is not a Trek, but it sure ride good. How bout a little more details. Can the races be replaced with metal ones ? Thanks Guys:) :)

Well... most, if not all new bikes I ever owned needed to be greased and the bare minimum is usually in there. I would suggest you do the same and then you can see if it's plastic or metal races in there. Not a big deal to replace them nor is it expensive...it's pretty much standard stuff. Sounds a bit weird to take a new bike apart, but I find I can really make everything really smooth and free rolling with the greasing and the cone adjustments, including the pedals.

I'm new to cycling myself, so I'm not sure if this will help you much. I bought an aluminum Sun Key West Cruiser 7 speed (got a good deal on it $200), ive ridden it about 200 miles so far, and seems to be ok. They're defently not top of the line, but better than most x-mart bikes. I think it's making a good begginer bike for me (poor college kid).
