Just found back this old article in the Herald Tribune dating from 2000 about Christophe Bassons:

In l'Equipe dated 17th July 1999, LA said about Bassons:
"Ses accusations ne sont pas bonnes pour le cyclisme, pour son équipe, pour moi ni personne. S'il pense que le cyclisme fonctionne comme cela, il se trompe et c'est mieux qu'il reste chez lui."
("His accusations are not good for cycling, for his team, for me or anybody. If he thinks cycling works like this, he is wrong, and it would be better for him to stay at home.")
Right...
