Living Car Free - Crosswalk Memorials for Pedestrians Killed by Motorists

I found this video on Woostercollective.com (a street art website), but I believe it would interest the folks in this forum.

Recently, in Lisbon, Portugal city officials hired artists to repaint crosswalks using the names of pedestrians killed by motorists. It was the highlight of "Safe Street Week" and has since been adopted by other countries as a method of creating awareness against the dangers of negligence.

I'd like to see the names of the people killed at each particular location to remember them. Some locations might get a little crowded with names and obscure the traffic control stiping.

We have people who put up memorials I see them and shudder everytime.

I think the names are too small? How long will that last till it fades? Also I would like to see a bus stop maybe or something that big with the names on the wall. Just some thoughts.

Maybe more relevant to this forum are the white bike or ghost bike memorials (http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070506/NEWS01/705060420/1056/COL02)for cyclists killed in car crashes.

And of course, the time is here for the Ride of Silence (http://www.rideofsilence.org/main.php), a worldwide memorial/protest of cycling traffic deaths.

As it's Lisbon, I'd imagine they aren't short of names. That city is insane to cycle in. Hope this maybe raises a little bit of awareness as it's a lovely city otherwise.
