Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - sealed bearing replacement info

is there a standard bearing size? I need to replace the bearings in an old spinergy rev-x front wheel I got and I want better bearings for a formula hub I'm gonna buy (I heard the stock ones suck), but I'm not sure what to look for.

any suggestions of good bearings/where to get them? I was thinking phils, but I don't know which ones I'd need.

I want to replace the bearings in the spinergy AND the formula, not switch the bearings.

yea, I know. I meant that you probably won't be able to buy one bearing for both hubs. Sorry for the confusion.

depends on the kind of goo you ride in.
Formula hub bearings are to the outside of the hub without anything covering them. So nothing protects them except the bearings' dust shields.

If you go the VXB bearing route, try the Si3N4 ceramics. They are very smooth.

If you live in a major city, you should be able to find an industrial supply willing to sell you high grade bearings. Much cheaper than buying them from a bike shop. Remember, Phil doesn't make bearings, they just spec in high end bearings from another manufacturer.

A couple seasons, including riding in the winter. You can pop em open and regrease them if they feel dry. Or just buy a whole new set for $10.

does anyone know if there is another common application (rollerblades, skateboards...) that uses the same size bearings as hubs? I want to find some good abec-9 bearings but I can only find ones for rollerblades and skateboards.

..so you think any old rollerblade bearing will fit your hubs? Good luck with that.
Go to spinergy's site and read through the tech sheets to find the 4 digit cartridge number. Formula uses #6000 (10 x 26 x 8). 90% of bicycle cartridges come from here: http://www.endurobearings.com/products/enduro_bearings.html

the formula bearings are designated with a LB shield, which, as far as I can tell only uses a shield on one side of the bearing. must be so they roll with less drag.

I have a wheel that fits the size of common skateboard bearings, but now it's super hard to find an axle to fit the bearings, considering the internal diameter of the bearing is much smaller than that of say a bearing for a suzue pro max hub.

anyone know if miche uses the same bearings as formulas?
I only own the miche hubs and can't compare.

Looking for a replacement asap as winter has killed mine.

it should say right on the seals of your miches

otherwise pop em out and measure.

I'm sure there are others.

does anyone know exactly what size fits formulas? i'm unsure about the differences with different #'d 6000s. also, what alternatives are there to phil woods? are there steel zipp bearings? i would assume those are better. anyone know?
