Northern California - Suggestions for new commute??

Ok everyone, if any of you can help me here, it would be great!

I used to commute from Mountain View, now I have to commute from San Jose. I live in San Mateo.

I would like to hook up with the same roads, I don't know the City of San Jose that well to come up with a good way to those roads from my office. I was thinking Homestead would be one of the roads to get to Foothill.

Anyway, my office is at 40 S Market St, San Jose, CA 95113 (Basically the corner of Market and Santa Clara).

I would say which ever roads have the bike lane. The Alameda would not be my first choice because of traffic, but it may be fine once your over hwy 17.

that is a long damn commute, and the trek across homestead is a completely frustrating stop and go. i'd much rather take caltrain from diridon station downtown SJ to the San Antonio station, then bike up San Antonio to foothill. that would cut off both a full hour from your travel time as well as eliminate the ugly, boring surface route part of the ride.

if you really want to bike the whole way, take the Alameda (82) out of downtown and hook up with Central Expy next to the airport. cut over to foothill on san antonio, where Central turns into Alma and the bike lane goes away. I did a commute from palo alto-santa clara during rush hour down Central on tuesday, at a 20mph average (tailwind helped though).

as you can tell (from my nametag if not my testimony) i am a firm advocate of cycling on our lovely county expressways. i like them all (except Lawrence!! that road is awful.) Almaden, southwest, central, foothill, san tomas, and even Capitol. IMO the expressways are the best way for commuter cyclists to get around the valley.

I know what your saying. I used to work around 101/San Antonio, and I would take Charleston to Foothill. It was great ;)

I was thinking of taking the train to Mtn View or PA (Bullet - No San Antonio stop), and just do the commute I was doing before.

Right now I use the train the whole way, and have like a mile ride at each end, and it makes me feel terrible :( I miss my 6 mile little ride from PA Caltrain to my old office.
