If you remember, I was horribly disappointed in my test rides with the Trek 1200/2000 bikes and the Klein Q Carbon. Today I tried two Bianchis and I think I have found the brand I want to concentrate on!

I tried the Giro. What a nice ride! But then I tried the Vigorelli. Oh baby!

The 2003 Giro was definitely lighter (and less expensive) but the Ultegra on the 2002 Vigo. was definitely smoother!

Now, here's the problem...I seem to be between sizes. The 57 has too much clearance, but the length seems better. Unfortunately, I have to raise the seat quite a bit. The 59 seems to force me to stretch more. despite the fact that we used a shorter stem and even tilted the bar a tad. The shop feels that I am better off with the larger bike rather than the smaller one. What's the consensus? Isn't adjusting a larger bike harder than adjusting a smaller one?

Do you have problems with the drop to the bars on the 57? IF the reach is right, that should be your first choice. if drop to bars is a bit much get a stem with some more rise in it.

Reach (top tube length) should be your first guide in fitting.

What's too much clearance anyway? On my compact road I've got about 4" of standover clearance and the bike fits fine.

If you're more comfortable on the 57 that's the right size.

hsjb,

You say the you didn't like the Trek, the Klein was better, but that you really liked the Bianchi and want to concentrate on that brand. You haven't mentioned Lemond. Any particular reason?

I haven't tried the Lemond yet. Maybe tomorrow.

The brand or model isn't as important as BIKE FIT.
If the bike doesn't fit properly you will be very unhappy regardless of the brand/model you select or it's components.

Make sure the bike shop does a proper bike fit. Don't just do the "stand over" test.

Brand and model is just as important or go to walmart. You want to get the right fit on the right model. Its all important.

I love lemonds, and own one myself, but If you really don't like the stretched out feeling, then i wouldn't reccomend it. The lemonds are known for their long top-tubes, which stretch you out quite a bit.

There is nothing wrong with standover, though. You could concievably get a lemond in a smaller size, have the correct reach, and raise the seatpost, and you wold have no problem.
