"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Austin: anyone else doing Thurs crits?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I'm going to be doing the Thursday night crit this week, and hopefully next week. I'm going to do the 3-4 race, and possibly the Open 1-4 if my legs talk me into it between the events. Any BFers I should look for?

It will be nice to get some use out of the USAC license again... I'm hoping to do the AMLI Crit too...

For how many Thursdays will these be going on for? I usually travel back home to Denver on Thursday nights, but I'm guessing there'll be a few times where I'm in Austin for the weekend.

*edit* -- ah, nevermind. According to http://www.txbra.org/events/event.asp?EventID=1461 , they run thru 6/28. Expect me to be there in a few weeks or so.

It actually runs until Daylight Saving Time ends... you've got lots of time -- though I'll probably do the Tuesday Nighter more often. I'll see how fun this turns out to be...

Awesome, me too. I guess I won't get much help if I wear that Jersey, huh?

No comment, else I'll be a marked man when I show up. :D

My contract work is Austin is currently slated to end in mid July, but that still gives me a few more weeks than I originally thought.

Tuesdays would probably work better for me as well, but I'm not seeing any Tuesday night crits in Austin on the TXBRA calender. Where are you getting that info?

Aggy? Sooner?

It's a fun training race. I actually may be one of few Texas people there this week, since most of our team is in finals or at nationals.

Neither. I was going to make fun of how'd you be "indistuinguishable from the rest of the Texas people". :p

Sounds like fun and a good way to get myself motivated AFTER work as my typical workday ends with bouts of lethargy and general sluggishness.

I'll be in the 5's and riding an orange Lemond (at least I've got the color of the bike right for Texas).

I know a few of the guys on the team go up there (BSK Law/Bike World) are up there every once in awhile, I am thinking that I will attempt to make it up there someitme soon.

The Tuesday Nighter is a pickup training race, so it's not documented anywhere. First off, the Tuesday Nighter is one of the highlights of my week. It's really, really fun.

The A group goes at 6pm and the Bs at 6:05. It's three laps on a nine-mile course. When we get enough daylight to ride home, the As will start doing four laps (probably in just a couple weeks). I've seen more than 50 in both groups before, and it's pretty spirited racing.

The last time I finished with the As, we averaged 27 mph, with wind and hills -- and we spent a lot of time screwing around at 17mph -- made up for by some 30mph hills and 40mph descents. Pros commonly show up for the As. Pat McCarty (Slipstream) was a regular recently. Jenn McRae too.

The Bs generally average around 23.5-24, with the last lap much faster than the first two. Unfortunately (?), the Bs are pretty dominated by some really strong triathletes, who make it tough to get away because they're on TT bikes. So, this is pretty likely to end in a bunch sprint, and the tri guys don't stand a chance in that.

Here's the course (clockwise, marker is at the start line). Park on Panedero Dr, near Thaxton:

I keep wanting to make it out to one of those Tuesday nighters. I have a friend who races in them (Ron B. - tandem rider now) and loves it. How many single-attractive-cycling women around the ages of 19-24 exactly are there, is what I want to know...

OH, and being able to watch a race in person would also be a plus.

Waterrockets I'll be doing them soon, probably late May I'll get a couple in getting ready for the AT&T Downtown crit. I'll be in the cat 4 and 35+ fields.

Yeah, I know Ron. I've sprinted against his tandem a couple times. He told me they mark me :)

Single women... it's not a target-rich environment, but for some reason, the single guys are not putting the moves on the few hotties that do show up. So, you know, there are some chances, I guess. There's a tattoo that you're going to want to see in person too...

Awesome. It will be good to race with you in the 3-4 race :D

Thanks for the info, it sounds pretty excellent. I'll just have to make a point of getting out of work on Tuesdays in time to make it.

I'll be in the B's in the next week or so.

Ron is a monster. I'd imagine you must be as well. Nice, so there ARE a few out there waiting to be swept off of their feet.....on to a bike. I'm intrigued about this tattoo...one day soon I'll be there.

Right now I hate myself for not taking that job in Austin.
