Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - IRO Mark V or Lemond Fillmore?!

So I'm in the market for a new bike after and unfortunate accident, and I can't quite afford to do a custom build up the way that I would like.

I'm wondering if anybody has any insight into this decision...

Been contemplating the Mark V for a while now, it seems that i have read nothing but positive words about Tony and the bikes that he builds. They seem inexpensive, solid, and don't look flashy (which is something I appreciate)

I took a Lemond Fillmore for a spin today and enjoyed it, the bike felt solid, smooth, and responsive. I think it looks beautiful, although not quite as slick as the Mark V.

I wish there was a way to test ride the IRO!

The Fillmore is 679.99..and the Mark V would be 599.99 before shipping, so they are both in the same price range.

anybody have some advice?

go with the fillmore, I think your getting better components for the price......and where are you finding a fillmore for under a grand?

AFAIK, 680 is a steal for the filmore.

Fillmores are no longer US-made or os platinum tubed, are they? Regardless, that sounds like a good price, plus you won't see nearly as many fillmores out and about as you will mark vs...

Price was always around $1100, so they reduced the components to keep it stable. I lucked out and picked up an 05 at a bike store near me -awesome bike, great frame, great ride. According to another dealer they swapped out the TT OX frame with a "similarly behaving material", if they really did then this would remain a great bike - the price of $680 sounds very low. Very low, but higher than a Steamroller, Paddy Wagon, Langster, Madison, Rush Hour, Mark V...

what about a new IRO Angus vs. 06 Lemond fillmore? I have a chance to pick up a practically new 06 fillmore for 700. though, I'm tempted by the IRO koolaid. Can the fillmore take city abuse?

I have a lot of respect for IRO - I even got in the volume deal - - anyhow if you can get a 06 or 05 with the platinum OX frame for that price GO FOR IT. Geometry is a bit laid back(73 degree or so), but that acctually may help avoiding or crossing (bummpp) certain obstacles

I bought my '06 Fillmore from the LBS yesterday for $699 (on sale). It's the Black/Raw color scheme and has the parts specified on the Lemond website for the 2006 bike, so I'm not sure if your info is correct.

It has the True Temper OX Platinum, made in the USA, and has the exact component specs on the page you referenced:

Congratulations doughboy - you got a great bike there for a fantastic price. Looks to me like this is one of the early 06 production, before they downgraded some components - enjoy the ride :)
