i've just gotten into riding and i'm saving up money to purchase my first bike. should i go with the trek 1000 or the specialized allez triple?

i rented a trek 1500 and i loved it. but i did not get a chance to rent a specialized bike.

any advice to a new rider would be great.
i'm only 17 and am hoping to carry this on for a long time.

Quality wise they are pretty much the same. Assuming both fit you ok, pick the one you just like better for whatever silly reason. I like the specialized logo better.

haha yes i agree on liking the specialized logo better, i think the trek is a little less expensive, though.
i just want something that will last untill i decide to take this more seriously and move up to a better bike.

I would agree and say whichever one you think looks nicer. They are quite similar.

Bicycling Magazine choose TREK 1000 as 2007 editors pick because of its race ready frame geometry for a entry level bike. Do your research first before you decide.... :)

I agree, sensible. It's fortunate that we're all man enough to admit that the color, appearance can be important. On paper, the both seem equal. My brother has the Specialized, same model. He also has two vintage Paramounts and a Legnano. He bought the Specialized early this year, something practical,he loves it.Treks are an extremely successfull company for a reason, they make a damn good bike. They call the tune, others follow.

buy an 06 Allez elite off of ebay. You will get better components (105's) but the might have to replace the seat because it isnt too comfortable. I have one and i love it.

wow i had never looked at an allez elite because i always imagined they would be too expensive for a first bike, but they really are only a couple hundred dollars more than what i was hoping to buy. luckily for me i still get money from my parents so maybe they will be willing to help me out. :D

I love my Trek 1000. I've had it over 2 years now.
