I'm having a little trouble getting these dumb things out. Any clues?

Any chance you could poke them out from the other end? I'm assuming they're made of rubber? What about sinking a corkscrew or small wood screw into them and then yanking?

Yanking doesn't seem to be among the options, I assume they're threaded so I should be able to twist them out. But I have no way of getting leverage to twist!

A blow torch is clearly the answer.

Well the magnesium is already here... We could turn it into its OWN torch!

Try a flat head screwdriver and pry the caps off.

Prying just wouldn't do it for some reason. However, in my attempts to pry the lip was folded up, and I was able to grab it with some plyers and unscrew them.

Got that problem solved then.
