what is wrong with motorists in the city?
What's wrong with everything else in the city? I've been asking myself that since I moved here last August.
I think mostly it's too many ****ing people and too little investment in infrastructure. This place is a joke. A bad joke.

I smell money.. :)
What an idiot (the car driver), and it's recorded too open & shut case.
If I was the cyclist I'd start pricing some high-end bikes and a few nice vacation spots.. hee...hee..

Please accept my invitation to leave.

Lolz...No personal offense meant, even if, apparently, some was taken.
I love Toronto. I just see vast room for improvement in several areas, one of which is infrastructure.
Want to shake hands and make nice?

So the cop has been on 'leave' for three years. Nice job if you can get it. If I walked away from my job there's no way I would come waltzing back three or more years from now and my cube would be waiting for me. Wonder if it's paid leave.

The TTC is a joke but that is why we all cycle, right? What other areas need help?

Infrastructure is the biggest issue to my mind. Obviously, anyone who lives here knows that we have some very serious problems. My "bad joke" reference was to the dire need for investment in infrastructure and the questionable spending choices council tends to make despite that need.
I don't want to get into the rest of my ideas b/c I'd have to talk more politics. And talking politics on the internet just doesn't work. I mean, I wasn't even talking politics earlier and was still told to leave...

Speaking of police, one reason the city is crumbling is that approaching a quarter of the municipal budget goes to policing. And people still don't feel safe.
Another other reason is provincial downloading. The province is deep in dept, largely because its budget is being sucked away by 'health' care costs (around an incredible 40%).
Another reason for crumbling infrastructure is that, IMO, governments of all types and stripes, across the country, have too many priorities, too many fingers in the proverbial pie. That doesn't leave a lot of funds for the business that government should be in: justice, infrastructure, defense etc. I see a massive reckoning in the not too distant future as the rooster comes home to roost. Bridges, sewage, roads, etc will all need massive investment just to maintain their current status, much less improve a lot to handle increased loads. Ask yourselves where that money's is going to come from? Either new taxes or a reallocation of current spending. My take is that it'll be easier for our politicos to choose the former rather than make the hard choices necessary.
In short, while I like the arts and other feel-good industries, I don't think city councils, provincial governments, or the Feds for that matter, should subsidize them. Nor do I believe that businesses should be subsidized either... Just fix the sewers and roads. But that won't win votes will it?
The TTC is a joke but that is why we all cycle, right? TTC is a joke?? Have you been to many other North American cities? The TTC is downright amazing in comparison. Which is not to say it doesn't have a ton of serious problems and doesn't need a ton of improvements... but calling it a joke is just not right. If it truly were a joke, it wouldn't be the hottest thing on all city-related blogs all the time.
And nah, that's not why I cycle. I just like to cycle, that's why. Otherwise the TTC would've served my needs fairly adequately.
