Northern California - Sacramento LBS Recommendations Please

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I checked out several LBS's around here and I ended up buying a Cannondale from Mike's Bikes in downtown Sac (1411 I Street, Sac CA 95814, (916) 446-BIKE, and yes, they have free parking next door!). I liked their staff and their repair department. http://mikesbikes.com/index.cfm
City Bicycle Works is good, too. http://citybicycleworks.com/index.cfm
Never been here: Bicycle Chef: http://midtowngrid.com/bicyclechef/bicyclechecf.shtml
Performance (Howe Avenue and Northrup)
REI (Cal Expo)
Bob's Cycle Center, 9920 FAIR OAKS BLVD, FAIR OAKS, CA 95628 US, 916-961-6700 (Sunrise, Fair Oaks)
I'm sure there are many others...

thank you! She has no idea where to start so this is very helpful! That's two for Mikes' bikes :D
If your friend is looking for a road or tri bike, drive to Davis and go to Wheelworks. Better than anything in Sac that I know of, in terms of selection, service, etc. They specialize in higher end offerings.
What kind of bike is she looking for? Different shops have different flavors.

VERY entry level.... road bike.... she kinda likes trek but is going to go w/fit first....
City carries Trek. I bought my 5200 (among many other things) from City Bike Works. They also carry Bianchi, Specialized, and Cannondales. I believe that Bike Chef carries Giant and a few others. Those are my two favorite shops in town.
I have to admit that I haven't been impressed with Mike's Bikes. I don't know exactly why, I guess it just strikes me a bit too corporate. Too much like Performance. Maybe that's just me.

College Cyclery (google address) is very friendly and helpful--
call them to see what they have for road.
Bicycle Biz has fixed stuff,
Bicycle Chef is also a solid shop with nice road bikes and helpful staff.
Kens Bike & Ski in Davis (on G Street at the Co-Op shopping mall) has
a decent selection of entry level road bikes and helpful staff.

Send her up my way to Auburn, Trac...my man Dan at Victory Velo will treat her right...He carries Felt, Bianchi, Rahleigh, Look. Btw, I felt the same way about Mike's Bikes. Bike Chef is definitely a cool shop. You couldn't pay me to go back into City Bike Works after the treatment I got there there the last time.
