Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm noticing more motorized segways that the person stands on to ride and also electric bikes on the MUP. Sign says no motorozed vehicles. Most have non-human motors. What gives?

The law doesn't apply to them... the Segway has to be the dumbest invention ever.

as long as the guys on segways don't ride three abreast like the stroller moms I could care less, their loss for not getting any excersize and looking stupid.

Pricey too...they have a motor how'd they skid by that one?

Segway lobbied heavily for this in many state legislatures. Typical.

electric bikes are not considered motorized...I dont' get it, but it's true. I have also seen guys on those little weed wackers on wheels. Looks motorized to me.
Must be one of them there exceptions.

Well those motorized wheel chairs probably helped usher them in. They had to allow handicapped access, so some lawyer probably capitalized on the loop hole.

If we're talking Washington, here, then according to this site:

http://www.bicyclealliance.org/safety/no_ebikes.html

electric bikes are illegal on trails in King County.

I'm not sure if " electric personal assistive mobility device " = segways; I understand it to mean electric cart for the mobility impaired, and the up-to-25mph enclosed golfcart type vehicles which are permitted to operate on streets signed for 30mph or less.

Agreed that segways and electric bikes are sort of lame, but what is the harm? Despite the motor I've yet to see one that is faster than my bicycle.
