What are your opinions of vintage Modolo handlebars (and I guess their equipment in general)? It seems to be a cheap Italian brand. Were they produced in Italy exclusively?

Not a cheap brand,like Cinelli,they kind of "went away".I don't pretend to know why.Cinelli's back in the bar buss.Modolo was the first to successfully design and market the anatomic(Modolo) bend about 20 years ago.They were up there with the very best.ITMs became popular with Miguel Indurain.Even 3T's popularity wained for awhile too.Modolo is mainly an Italian firm.Modolo brakes are very desireable as well.The market is fickle,Italian firms are not always the most financially stable,I don't pretend to know why that is either.I gather you have a line on Modolo,I'd be hard-pressed to critisize Modolo components on any level.

I don't know about being a "cheap" brand. They did make some really nice stuff. Probably better than, say, Ofmega or Galli. I have a set of Modolo brakes that are just beatiful.

Argueably the "best" considered by vintage standards,according to a few individuals withwhom I've spoken.I remember them being up-there in fuction as well.

Top of the line Modolo was comparable to high end Campagnolo & Cinelli in the early-mid 80's, as far as brakes and bars go. I have Modolo America brake levers on my Guerciotti, haven't felt the need to swap them for the NOS Campagnolo Record levers in the parts bin as of yet.

Wow this is very interesting news. Recently I stripped a bar end shifter in a randonneur handlebar I really liked and had to dump it. My LBS graciously gave me a Modolo anatomic bar they had just removed and were going to throw away off another customer's bike. The anatomic drop section is a bit too small and uncomfortable but otherwise it is stiff and good looking. I had a feeling it was an Italian brand which was made in an Asian country but I'm glad I'm wrong :) Thanks for the info

Modolo did license their design to Sakae, who made some in Japan. They say Modolo patent on them. I had some, and I loved them. But I don't have that bike anymore.

Wow Modolo makes brifters....and they're only compatible with 7, 8, & 9 speed systems. What a joke
